I have a BME 44 with about 2 Gals. of gas through it and the last couple weeks I've been having a hard time starting it, especially after it has been ran and warmed up.The other night I was flying and I was loosing power so I landed, I richened the High end needle valve, and since then starting has been a real pain (in the arm ! )

I'm guessing this is your first gas engine. Setting up the carb is not the same as on a glow engine. You are correct in assuming that the motor is running too hot, but it is the low end needle that you need to adjust. (Are you sure you have enough air going over the engine and a large exit hole? This is a very common mistake with first timers) This could be one of the reasons your engine is so hard to start when it is hot. Adjusting the low end needle will effect the high end, but always set the low end needle first. I have to say that even I found it a little difficult to re-start my engine straight after a long flight. Other than that I have had over 2 years of experience of running a BME 44 in the heat of the dessert with very few problems.

Yes this is my first gas engine,The engine is mounted in a Dave Patrick Extrra330L. I was wondering if that was enough air going through my self, the front is open and it has a large opening in the bottom...... I have been out again running it this morning, I have it not running to bad,it starts alright cool but after it is run it takes awhile, i have been working on the low end needle valve and it has seemed to help.. I had the cowl off and notice when it is idling there is small drips of gas coming off the bottom of the carb? everything is tight, I cleaned out the carb,no dirt, and it was dripping before I took it apart.I'm heading to a fun fly tomorrow morning so I'm hopeing some of the more experence guys can give me a hand( teach me to set it up).I'll take suggestion I can get. Thanks.

Well it turns out that I cooked the engine probably because of over heating,I'm going to do some deflector work in my cowl and open it up some more. Expensive mistake, could have been worse.

It just came back from Keith and the exhaust side of the piston is all scored up and the rings are stuck on that side. There for it was blowing by,lack of compression, hard starting, etc. He said it was from lack of oil, to lean,or no oil. There was proper oil amount, and it wasn't no lean for any great amount of time, so I just finished cutting open my cowl to allow more air flow.
