I am debating on a MVVS 80 or DA-100L. I have the latter and know what to expect with DA. There are some obvious tradeoffs here. Cost wise, the MVVS is cheaper no matter what config I go with for exhaust: pitts muffler, cannister, tuned pipe, etc. The thing I want to know is how smooth is this engine. I understand its crank is supported by four bearings and the weight/mass help absorb vibration. I cannot think that it would be as smooth as a twin but I have not seen one. What about mid-range response? What exhaust setup give the best overall response for 3D?
By-the-way this is going on 33% Extra, I fly at about 1000-ft above sealevel.
Thanks.

P.S. I guess I should add that a ZDZ-80 Super is also a possibility.

Well, not really, that is why I added the ZDZ-80. I know even less about that motor though. I don't want to exceed the weight of a DA-100L...as that is my upper weight limit goal. I guess second criteria is torque. I love torque at low rpm. So, if you have any suggestions let me know.

Pat,
The BME-116 Extreme is a good choice. I keep looking at their website and that 10% off right now. The thing I like about it is that it really is in the "sweet spot" of weight. I know the power of this motor as I have had one before. The only problem is the cost should I decide to go canister. I know it will fit. I'll keep this in mind. When you consider that this motor (with throttle management) will suffice from a 33% to a 35% (and possibly 40% with the Hyperlite from Aerotech) then it is compelling.
By-the-way....whatever happened with your interest in Mintor Motors? I take it that it never happened. I ask this as I was looking at their 75cc twin. A little chunky yes, but it has a lot of bling!

I sent e-mails but never received a reply. Work related engine tasks take up most of my time lately so buying more engines for personal use when I don't have the time to fly them was out of the question.
Didn't make any sense to buy something that would sit on a shelf with so many other engines already in reserve. Rarely do I get an engine free of charge for review. When I do they get fast attention. Those I buy I get to when able since there's an implied obligation to provide product information soon after receipt. If you're not an engine dealer quite a few manufacturers don't see immediate benefits with an independant review. Having the dealer perform a review serves commercial interests a bit differently.
