Jim,
I had a Saito 100 in it and it was 8.0 LBS. The Dle setup is 8.0 OZ more and I am using a 2200 MAH SR pack for the INJ (8.7 OZ). I am changing the retracts out to SRC air and they say 1.0 LBS on the retracts, so I should be just over 10 IBS when finshed. The plane was to lite at 8.0 LBS for me, so 10 - 11 LBS should fly more like a warbird. Right now I have a 18/8 zoar warbird prop on it but when I can get a zoar 3 blade warbird prop I will order one. From what I am reading here I think the 17/8 pulls the best. Once I get the retracts in I will know more. I would like to say thanks to RCU and all who post, there is a lot of good info here. Happy new year...

What brand and size propellers have you guys been using on the DLE 20, and which do you like the best so far?

Alex, you might try Emailing Bisson Mufflers about a header, he seems to be willing to help and he is in Canada. Jim

Close call between a Zoar or a Vess 17 x 6

Hellcat update, on first startup this morning the 5 th flip the motor made a hard clank. I just got back from the hobby shop I bought it from. after we removed the motor from the plane and inspected it the rod pin broke off the back of the crank. This motor came from great planes. Anyone else had this happen?

My guess is it was damaged when they pressed it in. Mine never ran so it had to be damaged when it was put together. i just wanted to know if mine was the first that had this issue. Hopefully this will be the only one, I really liked this engine. I am sure they will take care of it.

It was probably just a hair-line crack on a hardened part (crank) and under load it just gave away. Tower should take care of it no problem.

Well I love this engine I can tell you that I have flown about a half of a gallon of fuel in it and it just keep getting stronger it has so much more power than my os 120 ax had and this little thing just keeps getting stronger I have it on a seagull Edge 540 and it came in right at 10 pounds and this motor has no problem hovering this plane and has not problem pulling out of the hover.. I plane to run about 4 or 5 tanks though it tomorrow

You know I did not write that down, I will run by the hobby shop sometime today and get the number. It's in the box there. If I remember there was a blue and white sticker on the box with a number on it? With all the engines out there I really think this is not going to be a common problem, so I would not hit the panic botton. I was watching a drag racing show a few years back and a well know racer when asked about the Hemi engines he was given from the factory and how did he pick the ones to use simply said, we would put it on the dyno set it at 6500 rpm and go to lunch if it was running when we got back it was a keeper.

I'm wondering if your engine could possibly have been "hydra-locked" this meaning, to much fuel in the combustion chamber. I had that happen to a glow engine once before and believe me it will break the con-rod pin very easily, especially on an inverted engine. GP will take care of it, I'm sure.

I'm having a tricky time getting the DLE 20's carb dialed-in right. The engine runs fine, without stalling, but gurgles noticeably at med to high throttle. When I close the high-speed needle a touch (1/8th?) I lose the gurgling, but then the engine will stall while doing a knife-edge. Is is that I need to run this engine rich for a while until it's broken in? I've run only about one gallon through it so far. And any ideas on how long it will take to be broken-in sufficiently before leaning it a bit more? Thanks for any help.

You are a little rich on the low needle. And every engine has differnt breakin periods even when its the same make of engine. Just my two cents worth as I have a lot of different gas engines and have never seen any two alike as far as breakin time and/or fuel amount required . They all have been reliable except for the JBA 15 and I think its just me on that one.

Well, my -20 flamed out on me in flight today, first time in about 42 flights. It was running really well up until then, was even easy to start and had great throttle response, but I think I iced up the carb. Someone at the club that has 40+ years flying experience flying (RC and full scale from 152's to F-4 and 767) said it was perfect conditions for it. It was like 40F and was very foggy earlier, but with the melting snow it was still like a mist over the field. Oh well, I aimed for a snow bank and put it down fast. Any further and it would have been in the woods/river, but I did not have enough altitude to do anything else. No biggle, just 2 new nylon l/g screws and a new Vess 17-6 was the only damage.

Be sure & let the engine warm up good in cold weather. I can plave my bare fingers on the cooling fins...even atfer 3+ min of running. Take Care Capt,n

I am having a problem with my DLE 20. I have ran about 1/2 gallon trough it.The problem is at full throttle  it dies, after 20 seconds or so. if you pull the throttle back quickly it will continue to run at idle. Idle and transition are good.

Sounds like you are to lean on your high end needle.

I let it "warm up" for like 5 minutes. I can run it at any throttle position for as long as you want, and it still is too cool in this weather. The crankcase barely gets even warm.

Had same issues, in the 40s high humidity, the Engine just plain quits and it takes forever to get it warmed up, seems like loosing tune but i think it is a temperatur/conditional thing. First time she fired right up but wount take any throttle past half, just for a brief moment but was cutting out Hi throttle like no fuel, warmed up longer and ran good, during flight cooling down she would not take throttle again, till half it was OK, more than that she allmost quit. Couple days later close to 60s no problems, no retuning needed. Looks like we have a could Blooded Animal here.
