Yea, that was me. Sounded like a zipper when the engine let go! A first for me!
I was running 32:1 oil, regular unleaded on my P-51 when the engine let go. I had been running an APC 15x10 prop and the plane had been clocked at over 110mph with a radar gun on a few strafing runs the week before. So it was cookin'. I had been running this combo for about a year and the engine was good and broke in with about four gallons through it. When I put the replacement engine on it, I lost about 20mph on the strafing runs as it is going to take a few gallons to get it broke in - again. Unfortunately, a crosswind landing took the P-51 away from me a couple of weeks ago. [] Cartwheeled it and it ripped everything from the wing back to shreds. It didn't look that bad until I got home and took the covering off and the plane just fell apart. Bummer. I'll get another one flying but I might step up to a 30cc version next time. Maybe a TroyBuilt P-51B with a DLE-30 if I can get them to sell me one. They've been very difficult to buy from for me the last couple of years. Never dealt with a company so rude in my life!

ESM P-51B "BALD EAGLE"
ESM P-51D "GLAMOROUS GLENN III"
As for an engine you might take a look at the Syssa sap180, which is a 30cc american made engine which they say has been rpm tested up to 14,000 rpm. So it might be able to give you the speed you want without coming apart.

w8ye made it easier while I was typing!
anyone know how critical the timing is on these small 2 strokes, I guess a couple of degrees each way wont make much differance, but how far can you go with that.

I'm new here and just received my DLE20. I know there's a lot of questions regarding the choke and throttle set up. I thought I post how I did it and maybe help someone.
I put the choke rod on the side that I did to "Pull To Choke".

Nice, clean setup, but remove the idle stop screw and spring. Your throttle servo should control that and have the capability to close the throttle completly.

+1 on Gary's suggestion.
Also, I would suggest that you change those snap-on ball links to swivel ball linksas these little gassers vibrate like crazy and have been known to cause the snap on ball links to come loose. I have had the painful experience of watching a modeller aganosie while is gas powered 78" Extra fly around for upwards of 30 minutes waiting for the gas to run out.
I love the set up, clean and tidy.

I think the DLE 20cc enginewould fly the 2 airplanes in the video below. The engine used was a Zenoah G20. Capt,n

Hi PHATBOB,
Thought I might suggest to leave the throttle spring in place. Seems it performs mutiple tasks such as keeping things centered & reducing "play". Mabey just disconnect it from the throttle arm, but if left in place and the throttle linkage does become disconnected, at least the engine will throttle down.
Have a great day

Throttle return spring - do nothing, leave in place. Any decent servo will have ZERO problems with it, and the benefits outweigh any alleged bad points.

Thanks Guys!!
I do like the swivel ball link idea. I printed out Dubro's size chart to figure out what I need. Hey, I did the best with parts on hand.
I got rid of the idle screw and spring and now I'm going to try to hook the throttle spring back up.[:-] I'm using a Spektrum DS821 on the throttle, shouldn't be an issue
with 88oz/in torque.
Right now I'm trying to figure out where I want to place the electronic ignition.
Is there an issue if my sparkplug wire runs between the exhaust pipes on my pitts muffler?
It would be a easy and clean install if I could. I was worried about metal to metal contact.
I thought maybe shielding the wire with high heat fiberglass tape.
Thank again !!

Without going into a long explanation ( if possible) how does one set up the timing wheel and what do you check it with to see if the timing is correct. I have never done this and would like to check the motors I do have to see if they are close.
Thanks

I have the same setup as spinnerows (WM P-51,DLE20, APC15x10) and have run 3 gallons with 28/1 oil ratio.
I have been lucky so far!(knocking on wood) but am thinking of trying a 16x8 triprop just to be safe.
Or should I go find a 15x12 and go for broke?..............hmmmmm

I'm quite keen to hear how that goes Vinmech, just setting up a H9 60 size 'blue nose' mustang that will be running the DLE20, a are always open to hearing how others planes of the same size/type go ...

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
thanks to johnsh123 and w8ye for posting the wheel.
i suppose one could just use a plastic degree "ruler" that you can find in the school supply section of most stores, then make one by hand on a thick piece of construction paper, or better yet, a balsa sheet.
but printing this out and backing it by balsa will be much easier.
Thanks again! Ill check mine when i get off duty tomorrow.
