Crud

Got some in my tank plugged up my fuel supply and engine quit. Argh! Where's the best place to insert fuel filter?
i use a felt filter in my gas can pickup, and a felt clunk in my tank... the felt clumnks filter down to 10 microns..... ever since i changed over to felt clunks my carb screens hardly have a speck of crap, compared to when i used the crap trap, inline type filters... http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-GENUINE-...03884980583038

it says up to 80 cc but many , including TOM,Jody, and my brother use them on 150cc class engines
I use exactly the same walbo felt clunk in my DLE20s but recently I had a big problem using them with my DLE55. The carb's fine filter mesh was getting clogged with very fine strands of the felt. Surprisingly these strands could travel past the sintered bronze filter as well.
After getting the problem twice I changed to regular clunks.
However the felt clunks continue to work in my DLE20 setups.
I qfeel that the dle55 suks much harder than the 20 and so pulls out the strands!!!!

HEy Guys, Can somebody tell the best mount to use for this engine.
Thanks,
Kelly
Hangar 9 (HANN2033). Use it for all my DLE20s without a problem.

Amazing!!, You don't know how many of them I have threw away over the years.[:'(] Didn't need them back then. LOL

Engine is not starting. When I choke it, it burps to life. As soon as I unchoke, it'll run for a second then quit. Seems like it's starved of fuel but the low needle seems to be rich.

Could it be heat?

Any guesses?

Low needle needs to be opened more, until it starts and stays running. Or you have some garbage on your debris screen in your carb.

Or you have an air leak, preventing pressure buildup needed to suck the fuel.

I'm new to this little engine. (Not gassers)

How would a MA 15x7x3B work on the DLE20? I will be running two 20s on an OV10 bronco. (Not a speed deamon)

Do I need to break them in with a 2B?

I read somewhere in this LONG thread that the engine needs to turn around 8000 static and not go over 9000. Did I read that right?

Check post #1 in this thread it has details on various props tested on this engine including MA 3blade. As far as break in, it's been said in this thread multiple times to run what you intend to run. The only special break in procedure is to run the first tank at the factory needle settings then tune on the second tank and fly till your hearts content.

This engine makes good torque in the 8400-8500 range which is where I like to prop it at. A Vess 17x6 is about as close to perfect as you can get on this engine. I've never heard of anyone running the 15x7-3B but have heard of people running the 16x8-3B. I would think the 15x7 would be too small.

I ran a 15x10 APC on a P-51 for about a year and it blew up a few weeks ago (crank pin broke). It was turning about 8800-8900 on the ground. Yea, I was winding the little guy tight for sure but man, that thing would move!

I run a 16x8 3 blade master airscrew with success. Depeding on temperature and fuel mix I am getting 8500-8800 rpm. Does very well. I think I mixed a little oil heavy this last batch. Even running rich, this engine is a powerhouse. I posted in this thread earlier about using a 15x7 ma 3 blade. Too high of rpm. Try the search function as I cannot remember the exact numbers. Good luck!

I think you could get away with a 15x8x3b MA, if you don't fly absolutely full throttle like spinnerrow does It should be all right at if you will be running around at 3/4 throttle or something like that. I, like spinner am running a 15x10 apc, but have not broke it yet! (Yea Yea, I'm knocking on wood,...hehe)

Where could the air leak be to affect the engine this way? What should I be looking for?

I wonder how a 16 x8 3 blade would look on my new deweyville special.  Would be different thats for sure.  Going to work on it tomorrow and see what it takes to get the tank out and fit the DLE20 to it. The cowl would be too small, but I can always find something else to use for a cowl.  the guy who built this plane really knew how to secure things, the inside is clean, not a spec of oil or fuel. The fuel lines are all zip tied, and the tank is wrapped and snug.  The motor mount is a short little thing, about half the length of the one for the DLE.

Windgap - I was just having that same problem with an XYZ 50 - turned out their was a small gap between the manifold and the carb. Once I replaced the gasket and tightened it ran great. Also could be a hole in your fuel line, letting air in. Might want to take the carb off and inspect and \ or change your fuel line.

kiwibob,
You will love the Bluenose DLE -20 combo. I fly the H9 60 size P-47 with the DLE-20. Lots of fun! MAS 15x8x3 prop.

Nice looking plane there Tailheavy - The TopFlight P47 Razorback is up in my "list of things I REALLY want"! - I want to do a kit build at some point.
I'm taking my time on the build as this is my first ARF buildup. That said, for what H9 described as a "builders ARF' in their promo video, this baby is going together pretty easily to date. That said, to ensure I'm not getting TOO cocky, I'm taking it around to a guy from the club who has a fair amount of experience with ARF's to go over what I have done to date (mainly the rudder and elevator installation's) to point out any possible errors before I get too far in.
If any ones interested, I have decided to document the build on the following thread as finding info on this plane/motor combo it just painful!: [link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10650733/anchors_10650733/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#10650733[/link]

try a 15x10apc 2 blade ...as long as you tach under 9krpm on the ground and the engine has been broken in, you will be in the 100mph range

Metallica, Might try that. I need to pick up a handheld radar unit. They are getting reasonable now. Straffing runs are a blast!

all links to info and photo links on page 70 are no longer working.

I just found this thread so does anyone have a current break-in procedure?

I ran mine for the first time for a few minutes the other day. 9120rpm with a vess 16x6. Im going to be running a Xoar 16x6 and also try a 15x8 initially.

I run 30:1 Maxima 927 castor Race Oil, and either shell 91 octane, but im going to switch to sunoco 100 oct.

Those props are too small and will put you over 9k which is too much.  Ideal props for this engine are 16x8 or 17x6.  Even the 15x10 unloaded too much in the air and has resulted in an engine failure.

As for break-in: run 1 tank at high idle, let it cool and on the second tank tune the high and low and go fly with varying RPM.  Full break-in won't happen until ~3ish gallons.
