I already made a new plywood plate with blind nuts for making the Ultra Stik a taildragger? Would I need to reinstall the blind nuts for a different, larger landing gear from the Giant Ultra Stik? What tail wheel do you use?

I've built and flown Ugly Sticks for 40+ years and its my all time favorite, relaxing model to fly. The model is tough as nails and easy to repair...and they have been around in many different forms, by many different manufacturers. There isn't a model out there...and I know its debatable, but the Ugly Stick is one of the most predictable flying RC models ever designed. A gentleman named Dick Jenson had one of the first kits out and it was a .60 size model. A guy named Larry Lenord had a smaller version called, the Little Stick, and I must have built dozens of this model over the years. I've built them with one, two, three and four engines over the years and the bi-plane version too. There is the Sweet and Low stick, for both in gas and glow sizes out there...and I've even built one with a G-Mark .030 @ 10 oz. This model has been around for so many years, is simply because it handles so well on both take off, and landing, that it brings smiles to all they fly them. Acrobatically it suffers a bit and Birdi always had a better aerobatic model (Kaos series) then Jenson Ugly Stick.

I use flaps in three positions. Full up, 30 deg. and 60 deg. All flaps do is get you off the ground faster and the model will nose up with flap application. On landing with 30 degrees of flaps, you will have a softer elevator and she rounds out real sweet, to a three point landing. Full flaps will slow you down and you lose some glide performance. You may need to carry some power with full flaps, but you can fly her more near the stall and she still hangs in there. No other model every flew for me as sweet as an Ugly Stick.

Remember to dial in some down elevator on your computer radio, with flap application.

I fly my Ugly Sticks in all kinds of winds and turbulence. Flight control is so positive and the model is so forgiving, it makes you look good, even when your knees are knocken.

A year or so ago I bought an old Balsanova 1.20 kit on Ebay.
Flew it for the first time on Sunday, this plane with the DLE20 up front, my first petrol model, is absolutely briliant!
If they still made the kit I would buy another in a flash, think they went out of business 10 or so years ago.

First time I've seen this thread...I'm installing 2 dle 20's in a esm f7f  tiger cat.I hope to be doing taxi testing in aug/sept.</p>

I have 2 Funtana 125's. One has had the SAP180HP 30cc engine for about 2 years now. Flys great, but is way overpowered. My second Funtana 125 had a Saito 1.25 4s and is now being upgraded to the DLE 20cc gas engine. Can't wait to go fly with both 125's. Guys at the field will be interested to see which is best.

I have an older Funtana, the yellow S90 with a DLE20 and a 55" Ultimate with a DLE20.

I have a sig mayhem 1.20 with dle 20 incredible match.           And to bigti10       I have a giant ultra stick with a dle 30 .  I used a Sullivan tail wheel,  it has  awesome power,  Im curious how the dle 20 pulls it.

I have a seagull super decathlon 120 with the DLE 20. Talk about power? It hovers at like 1/4 throttle. I love to fly it, nicely overpowered.

Good report on the Sticks, Bob and all. Did you go to taildragger gear on your 60 size sticks? I had both sizes of the Hangar 9 Sticks (40 and 60 anyway) and had a blast with my overpowered 60 size with the Saito 125 on it. A Stick question though - both of my Sticks had terrible rudder coupling that made them impossible (for me) to knife edge with. Is that common with all the Sticks?

I put a DLE 20 in a Aeroworks profile, 60-90 size and its awesome! Unlimited vertical and a lot of fun!!

It's a rocketship, alright. It weighs 18 1/2 lbs. and the wing loading is 50+ oz/sq ft. even so, it flies great. 12 channels, 13 servos, 1 rudder gyro and an engine synchronizer.

Mike, what a beast of a setup you have there. PHall, have you tached your 20cc with an 18x6 prop. Don't most guys run a 17x6? Thanks.

I wonder if there are still plans for Ugly Stiks? I had a Midwest Sweet Stik that I built from a kit but I did not start slow and easy and learn[img][/img] how to fly it but cranked it up and got disoriented and too low and demolished it; I will see if I can attach a photo? Well, I tried and received a reply from the webmasters that the photos had been uploaded but I can't fathom where they are?

I have never weighed it. I can tell you that a DLE 30 was waaaaay too much power and it flew heavy. I had to put the three li-ions behind the wing to balance it with the DLE 30. With the DLE 20 I moved all three batteries to the engine box and it balanced fine and flies very light. I have been very satisfied with the overall performance. I would like to try a 18X8 as it pulls the 18X6 with no problem.

I'm waiting on my two DLE20'S to put in my TF B-25 going to use 3 blade props for clearance. I had to 70 four strokes and had to pull them off not enough uh oh get out of trouble will post when done!

Slip Stream Yak, Slip Stream Sbach, and a Great Planes Stearman, all fly great, and are very reliable!! This is my favorite small engine!

I can't say enough good about the Ugly Stick series of models and I do believe the original plans were designed by Don Dewey, the long time editor of RCM magazine. A great good guy and his design is one of the most copied and flown RC models of all time. There are many plans of the Ugly Stick out there, and try Uncle Willies Plans.

What a great looking P-38 and I under stand that ESM will be coming out with a new P-38 some time late this year. I built and heavily modified a Nitro Planes P-38 and it came out to 18 lbs...being powered by two K&B Twister .61's. I installed retracts (Spring Air) engine synchronizer, engine plug re-heat and like you 13 servo's. I have been placed on a list with VQ models, to have one of the first new kits out of the ESM P-38...and can't wait to install two 20cc gas engines into the model. I've the engines...engine synchronizer and gyro (like you) all ready in house for the build.
