Well I was asking about the golberg 12, but since it looks like you have the Cermark as well, how about both? :)

RE: G26 setup

Cermark S2B was about 11 lbs - flew like the hotrod the Pitts is and in true replication of the Pitts you better have plenty of altitude in a dead stick situation or you will create your own runway. Nick named - CHEVY because without power it is LIKE A ROCK!

Goldberg 12 was close to 13 lbs and flew very much like the S2B but with the round cowl would slow down much quicker without power. Both required power on landings or a somewhat steep glide path on approach. Both have been favorites and are good combinations for the G26. You may also note these are both Ralph Cunningham G26's with electronic ignition and are lighter than the stock G26. Both ran an APC 17x10 but the Mejzlik 18x6 works well also.

yeah, I have one of ralph's g26s, I took mine down further yet and am very happy with it. I just really like that model 12, and wondered how yours turned out! Thanks for the info.

Do you think the g-26 will fit in a 120 size P-47?

Hi Guys

I am doing the finishing touchers to my ESM Cirrus SR22. I have gone with the G26 motor but have decided to avoid the crank system and go with the Zenoah convertion. Problem is I seem to have a fuel starvation problem. I am able to choke it.But when I try to start therafter it runs for 5 seconds only. Please help before I put a hammer to it. LOL

RE: G26 setup

Alan, what can you tell me about the mounting and work you did to get the 2 deg of RT thrust and the prop clearance, cutting the cowl ??? I'm installing a stock standard (magneto type) G26 in my Cermark S2B, what sort of tank did you use? What time do you get on the tank. I appreciate any set up tips as I have limited experience on gas engines.

Mike, A wood wedge is supplied with the kit that should give you the correct thrust angles when mounted behind the engine. Works great with the G26. You could also use some nylon spacers to do the same thing.

I used the stock tank but of course used a gas stopper and got 15 min flying time.

I have attached a picture of the cowl cutting that was needed with the Slimline pitts muffler.

Alan, I'm going with the standard muffler, can't get a slimline pits here in Kuwait. I will have to order one off the web. Do you recommend a online dealer that will do international shipments? I have used Tower hobbies in the past, but they do not have any G26 stuff. How much of a spacer will I need to get the engine setup? What's the vibration like on the G26?

Thanks for the pic.

Mike

RE: G26 setup

I would really try my best to not use the stock muffler. It is heavy and it reduces power. Try Chief Aircraft at www.chiefaircraft.com and see if they will ship internationally. You are going to have a challenge as it is with balancing the Pitts. I was just able to do it by moving my RX battery to the very rear of the cockpit but keep in mind I'm running a lighter version of the G26. I'm also not sure how that stock muffler is going to fit inside the cowl. Maybe someone else who has tried it can relate their experience.

I'll try and get some measurments from my Pitts for you to give you an idea what the spacers might need to be. I have to be careful though because my G26 has been modified and I'm not sure it is the same length. I'll find out or Ralph will chime in and tell us. This is G26 ser # 1 Ralph.

If it's #1 it should be the same length as stock, I don't think it has the new 2 piece hub...

Thanks for the info. What about removing the back mounting plate on the engine and mounting on stand offs? Is this advisable?

The case is thin, the plate is a good reinforcemant..If you use standoffs there's a good chance the case will be destroyed IF;) you crash....

Thanks for the additional info. What would the cost be for a conversion to EI and a weight loss program? Remember, I am in Kuwait in the Middle East.

They are tougher than you think Ralph. Mine did not break when I took both blades off of a Mejz and completely destroyed the plane.

RE: G26 setup

Depends on the crash, I have 3 or 4 cases here with the mounting holes broken off on one side....
the conversion is $125, don't know the postage to Kuwait, it cost $28 to send one to Canary Islands, Spain, last week :D

RE: G26 setup

Question, can I buy a New in the box G26 from you that has had the full EI and weight loss program? Can this be done securely on line? Are there any threads you can direct me to on what you do in the conversion?

Thanks, but did notice that they are $20 more than Chief Aircraft.
I used to think that Tower Hobbies was good value[&o]
I will shop around before I make up my mind. What about the B&B pipe?

RE: G26 setup

Yeah it's too bad tower is not better like they used to be. If chief will ship internationally, that's cool. I don't know for sure, but I think I remember hearing somewhere that the bisson mufflers are a little restrictive for the 26, can't say for sure on that though.

the B&B is definitely not restrictive, but loud! It is cheap, and perhaps he'll ship internationally. You'll have to check it out. www.bennettbuilt.com

www.Abellrc.com has a very similar header for the 26 as b&b does, about the same price. But again I don't know about shipping. Since it is the same design as the b&b I would bet it is loud too.

If your looking for an exaust shipped internationally I can recommend Atomic Hobbies n Games on ebay,no I dont own the company. I recently brought a muffler from them, it got here fast and was well packed and I personlly feel better paying by paypal.
