RE: DL-50 engine

From what I have read DA has some of it's parts made in other countries but I do not that to be a fact, They are assembled in AZ,

RE: DL-50 engine

There is not one engine made that has the sum of the total made completely within one country. The two that most might use that come closest to the 100% mark are DA and Taurus. DA perhaps a bit more so than Taurus.

Now most of you in this thread look at a DL for two reasons. It's about $300.00 less than a DA with mufflers and it will provide enough power for the plane you have. A very large number of people pop up with posts about how engines are put together and where they are made based upon information they have read somewhere, and have no, nada, zip, zero direct personal knowledge of what they are talking about. That really needs to stop since it acts like a malicious rumor and causes lost sales for either company. If you don't KNOW, then don't post like you do.

Both DA and DL make good engines, each suited to a specific customer base. For those that can't afford a DA, go with the DL. You will be happy. For those that can afford and have the desire, get a DA. It's that simple. There's no reason for a "who's is bigger" round about. One WILL last longer than the other, but by the time one finally gives up the owner will have obtained quite a few years of use from it. If either engine type is crashed it will have to be repaired. Crashes are the great equalizer, and is all likelyhood just about every RC engine out there will be crashed a good many years before it would have worn out.

So let's get back to discussing how to set up, tune, run, and install some DL-50's, shall we?

GO T.O.M. GO T.O.M.
I LIKE THE WAY TOU THINK. YOUR RIGHT IF SOME ONE SLAMS ON A ENGINE THAT SOME PEOPLE COULD AFORD THEN POOF ITS GONE BECAUSE OF POLITICS. AND FOR THE PERSON THAT REALY WANTS TO GET INTO THE GAS ENGINE PART OF R/C CANT BECAUSE THE ENGINES THAT WHERE AROUND FOR GUYS LIKE ME THAT CANT AFORD THE BIG $ ENGINES .
THATS LIKE CUT OFF YOUR NOSE TO SPITE YOUR FACE ITS GOOD THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR SOME OF US THAT DONT HAVE THE FUNDS TO GET A EXPENSIVE ENGINE ARE OUT THERE HELPING US OUT IF I HAD THE FUNDS TO BUY A DL-50 RIGHT NOW I WOULD BUY ONE BECAUSE OF THE COST I HAVE PLENTY OF PLANS TO BUILD OFF OF. BUT NOT ANY MORE THAN ONE ENGINE SO MY HATS OFF TO THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE GIVEN US A LITTLE CHEEPER ENGINE FOR SOME ONE LIKE ME

New DL-50, run three times ~6mins to temp then cooled, tuned for flight, 7250rpm(peaked 7480) on a vess23A.

When I remembered which way to choke:eek: it runs like a dream. Just got back from six flights and wrote on the baffle, push for choke pull, off.

Wait until you have 3 or 4 gassers and the chokes are different. You always end up looking....

I like to use a servo for my choke I use the potentiometer knob on my transmiter works great no problems it is worth the extra work to do it,

It's not an electrical problem you need a bigger hammer?

mid range as in 1/4 throttle or where is the throttle at . if it is towards the low end readjust the low end or low screw if it is towards the high end of the throttle setting like 2/3 setting or higher readjust the high screw
personaly i like them a little on the rich side i like to think of it as a little insurance

i got a xyz and it has the power of a 40cc. i dont know about the dl........ but my da has twice the power

RE: DL-50 engine

i also was looking into the xyz engine but was disapointed with the manufactor specs.http://www.southeastrcengines.com/see_009.htm. looks like dl is a stronger motor

Tired Old Man 02-04-2009 05:43 PM

RE: DL-50 engine

In all the DL 50's out there that's the first time someone has said his DA had twice the power.... Good to see they have one like that. That means my Taurus must have at least 2.5 times the power;)

Yea, I know, but I didn't start it....I promise to sit back and watch the fur fly with no additional input from me:)

i think he was talking about the xyz engine and his da was twice the power of the xyz.

OldRookie 02-04-2009 07:12 PM

RE: DL-50 engine

I would highly doubt, that any engine in the same size class, would ever be 2 times more powerful. Some people say that they got a good one, but twice as much power, get serious.
TOM...Put that Tarus 50cc engine in an airframe made for a 100cc and see how it compares. If it has twice the power of a 50cc it should be no problem to fly a 100cc airframe.
This is all BS, or just wishful thinking.

My friend has an XYZ. I've done a little research on them. They put out 20 pounds of thrust. The DL is 30 pounds. That's a big difference, but not quite double.

RE: DL-50 engine

OldRookie,

You know I was just trying to get something started using what someone else had laid down. I could't resist it;) Based on Paul5992's numbers, the DA would have to have an output of 40 lbs to double the XYZ, and 60 to beat the DL by the amount noted. They don't, and neither does the Taurus. Not even close to 40 and never will. The 30 pound number is a stretch.

I've had my share of 50's and tested a few more. Several different brands, and the better ones are all pretty close on stock or Pitts exhaust

I think he only meant that the DA is much more powerful than the XYZ ya know,

TOM....I know what you were doing, but I didn't know where the other post was, so that I could reply to it.

Sometimes I began to wonder if it is actually safe to fly with some of these people.

Sir...Lay down the transmitter, and put your hands up.
