DA50 Oil
 

I just finished running pennzoil 32:1 thru my DA50, I am now going to switch to Amsoil Saber 100:1. A couple of DA50 owners at the field told me to run a gallon at 50:1 before going to 100:1. I also changed the prop from a 22x8 to a 23x8. The DA50 is in a PAU 50cc Edge 540. Any suggestions would be helpful and welcomed.

If it were me I'd run Saber at 80:1 and not go to 100:1. 100:1 is pretty lean and 80:1 gives you a little extra cushion in case you don't mix it perfectly. I believe Amsoil indicates on the bottle that you can run at mixtures richer than 100:1 if you wish. Just my opinion.

90 wt. Harley gear lube or STP, mixed 1-1. Better yet, run on down to Walmart and get some of their house brand oil. Mix it at 50-1 and forget it. You'll crash the darn thing before it matters. Or use whaever you use in your garden weedwacker. It's run this long already:eek:

Yea, I don't think it's that critical either. I am guilty of running the same 40:1 mix of generic walmart oil in my 28% WH extra as the neglected weedwhacker. After recently tearing down the g-62 WH engine for a leaking base gasket, I was pleasantly suprised to find the engine looks perfect inside.
I have yet to see anyone here post a oil related engine failure. Most have been from overheating and/or too lean a mixture, or a crash into terra firma.
I'm not trying to hijack your thread, just saying whatever you decide will be okay for your engine.

Well, I didn't crash, but the stopper(black) came loose on the fuel tank and now I have a 50cc Edge 540 soaked in 100:1 Amsoil. I though black stoppers were for gas. Anyone have any ideas?

Not sure what kind of tank you are running. DuBro gas stoppers are sort of a reddish - brown color and are very reliable. Their nitro stoppers are black. Sullivan gas stoppers are black and are known to swell and / or come apart in gas. Sullivan nitro stoppers are white.

Guess you found out the hard way that not all so called gas stoppers are in truth gas compatible stoppers. Use a Dubro gas stopper ( brown coloured) every time for trouble free performance.

I run belray h1r at 32:1 and motors run great. i will never understand the desires to run an engine at 100:1 it just simply makes no sense at all. the need for accurate needle settings is 10 times higher with no room for error. A 15 degree drop in ambient temp can burn the motor up by leaning the mixture with denser air. crisco chicken grease will lube the motor if theres enough oil in the mix. the dubro brownish/red stopper is the only one you should ever use for gas. the sulliven stoppers are made for gas and glow and look the same,mix em up and whos who. the black ones will also show you how well balsa can soak up gasoline.

I'm running H1R at 50:1 and it's great. NOW all oil related questions should be referred to this thread!!! LMAO These guys are mostly experts in the field and beat this subject to death for 5 pages. Take your fuel soaked fuse outside somewhere and spray "Ether" (Starting Fluid) on the fuel soaked area. Use a lot, it will remove exhaust oil spots from untreated wood as well. Best to not be near an open flame while spraying to avoid the flame thrower thing. Avoid smoking at the time as well.
