Picked up a Lanier Predator ARF (2nd version) cheap and I'm in the process of putting it together. Noticed that it comes with some strips of covering. Is this for gap sealing of the hinges on the ailerons and elevator/rudder?
It also comes w/ a piece of 3/16" ply 2 3/16"x1 1/2". What's this for?
Instructions not given for these items.
Also, after installing V-tail (as directions say), there is a gap at the fuselage at the leading edge of the V-tail. What do you do to fill this in or do you just leave it like it is?
Just looking to race w/ a few guys on the weekends w/ a sport engine (OS46LA).
Thanks
Happy Holidays!!!

Hey I am in Clemmons, don't know where you guys are. I have been flying a Predator 2 with both a Jett super sport for weekend practice and with a Quickee Jett for 428. I flew it at the NATS and it handled very well. You should have the cover for the top of the stab. i had to sand mine so that it would fit. Any spaces, unless too big you should cover with the 3M racing tape sold by Darrol Cady for example. With the space below the stab I just filled it in with thick CA and made a fillet with accelerator, and it has worked fine. Make sure you reinforce the firewall and the hold down plywood in the fuse. I used small triangular stock, CA and 20 min epoxy. Good luck,
Luis M.

Hey vicman,
Yep it's Jacksonville.
Looking to give mine a try in the next week or two, hopefully.
Would like to get together sometime and wip them around the poles with you and whoever else.
Been to ILM before, but not Clinton. Might need to come and race with you guys!!
It's kinda up in the air for now, but my brother and I are looking to maybe start having regular pylon races at our flying field. We're looking to run stock 500 planes(Predator's, Vipers, etc.) with O.S. 46LA's, to keep things economical and a little safer. If it goes alright and flyers enjoy racing the stock'ers, then it might even go to the "Big Boy" engine class(Nelsons, Jett's, etc.)
Is there anywhere in N.C. that has Quicky 500 racing? If so, Where?
Hey Imotv1,
Let's go racing!!
Thanks for the help!!

Hi Luis! I think we met at the BARKS meeet. I got the motor and you got the plane...remember?
I live near the mountains so I'm not really too close to either of you but do travel quite a bit.
Clinton's field is not one of my favorite places to fly.[&o]

The field is fine as far as location but the people are not outsider friendly. Also it's an outlaw field with dues that are more than what I pay for two clubs. I went there with a co-worker to let them experience RC and when it was over I was asked "what did you do to make them so rude"?
I can fly right next to the office just fine with out worrying about freq issues and keep my money and happiness.
The LHS in Clinton is run by some very nice guys and they were not surprised at my reception out there. I may even go over to Fayetteville to fly next time.
That said, and back to the topic, it would not be very responsible to fly the Pred at the office. It really needs a safer venue[8D].
ILM is an awsome club but the field is on the short path to oblivion I fear.[&:]

I don't blame you, at all. I would do the same.
Fayetteville(Piedmont), I believe, has the BEST field I have ever seen(Wide Open). Can't use "the Tree got in the way" excuse there.
I heard from club members in my town that the ILM field is liable to be a housing development real soon. Hopefully they will find another great field in their area.
Anywhere in your area that they have Q-500 races??

Might have to get a .25 size racer too!!

We're going to sit-up the three pole course. Most likely will practice both the three and the two.
When is your first race planed for?

Hey Dave,
The current club field is in Hubert, N.C. now. Used to be toward Richlands, but now it is a great big HOLE(rock quarry).
My brother and I have a couple fields and we are looking to get some pylon racing going on in the area and maybe even get some out-of-towners to come and do some racing with us locals. (Nothing like the sound of five, six, ten, ect. racers buzzing around those pylons...Really gets your Heart Pounding).
No, I don't believe there has been any racing in this area for a while now.
Nope, not a Jarhead. Just one of the Few...the Proud...the Locals.

Hey vicman, Oh Yeah, Vicman I remember you from the Barks, Guys one of the things I recommend first is joinig the NMPRA. The web page has everything we need from rules to how to set up a course. Next, there are variations on the type of racing, aside from the AT-6 raced here in NC, there is also the club racing promoted by Don Stegall in Charlotte, you can look him up in RCPRO. There is Q500 racing going on in Jedburg, SC, promoted by Marcus Blanchard, and in Georgia, promoted by Mac Hodges of Hodges Hobbies. It would be nice to get a group here in our state to run at the different races these guys hold throughout the year. Basically everybody is racing 424 with TT Pro .40, and just recently in November we had a 428 in Jedburg along with 424. I would be willing to help if anyone is interested in setting up a race and getting a commitment from racers to come, including Bob Brogdon the NMPRA current President. In SC we have James Barr and Bill Johanson along with Marcus that I know would help in creating the interest that we need in the area to develop racing again. NC back in the 7o's and 80's was a hot bed of racing in the country with even past national champions. We are developing a set of pylons in my club and we could get together there anytime. Again the most important thing would be to determine what you guys want to do in terms of planes and engines. It would be a lot easier for all to start with the TT Pro.40 as this would allow you to go and compete at the other races being held in the area and along the Southeast.
Happy New Year to all,
