RE: Finished! GP EXTRA 330
thanks for the comments,
It hasn't been weighed yet but so far it's a little nose heavy. We have the batteries mounted in front of the wing tube so we will have plenty of adjustment area if we need to move the CG back. Two 6 volt packs.
All I can say is I've flown a H9 Suhkoi with 3 w 75 that is about the same weight and it's ballistic. I can't imagine what this 3w106 QS is going to be like. We'll find out though....

Looks very good, mine is tail heavy with a zdz80, I have 16oz lead in the nose.
You must have a lot of patience to do that checkerboard stuff.
How did you mount your canopy ?
Did you follow the instructions ?
I find the canopy a real pain.

RE: Finished! GP EXTRA 330
My buddy called me last night and it looks like tomorrow night will be the test flight. Will post results and hopefully some pictures as well of the flight and how the engine ran.
The Canopy: We won't talk about that, all I can say is it's lucky to be in one piece -the deck had a wicked warp into it and the glue popped on me twice before I had to resort to using screws.
(The kit was 3/4 built before I got it and finished it for him.)
Instructions- " We donneedno stinkn instruxtions " But yes for the most part.
As far as the checkerboards go, for some reason I love checkerboards. All checkerboards are monokote with the exception of the Cowl....He paid a pro to paint that-I wouldn't attempt it cause I suck at painting. For making checker boards all I do is cut a square out of 1/8 ply and glue a handle on it and start cutting squares. It works really good and very quick. Application is the windex method which works really well.

Yes, Tomorrow night ( Wednesday) will be the test flight. The last thing I'm doing now is setting the wheels and wheel pants. Everything is checking out fine. I took the pcm reciever out of the funtana and installed it in this bird so I know its proven. I should be there around 6.

RE: Finished! GP EXTRA 330
Well it was flown last night...all I can say is WOW. This is the BEST flying airplane. I had thought that the 3W106 would be way to much for this thing but even with a the big engine and a very nose heavy condition (only noticeable on landing ) this thing flies like a Cadillac.
Almost no trim required. Engine was flawless and this was it's first run. 27 x 10 prop.
Knife edge was effortless. (you almost don't even need much rudder input for sustained knife edge)
Knife edge loops are a sight to see and pretty tight as well
Single rolls require no elevator-----------like rolling on wire
Continuous rolls eventually end up in diving a little (again real nose heavy condition)
Loops, stall turns and inverted flight are so easy and realistic looking as compared to full scale.
And did I mention that 3W engine hardly even huffed at all!
No 3d has been tried yet. He's gonna break the engine and airplane in a little at a time before he tries (which means probably by this weekend. HEh Heh)
After watching him fly it he handed me the sticks and said give it a try. Wow, I was very impressed. My flying skills are not the greatest but even this airplane mad me look good. VERY EASY to Fly! The pics are not the greatest but here are a few...
