I just looked at some inside construction pictures of the TOC1 planes and they look great. They appear to be all laser cut and the fuse is built up. Not flimsy looking like some of these other planes coming on the market. Only time will tell if their quality is any good.

Yeah those are pretty Yaks.
Would be cool to look at one up close.
looks like the YAk-54 is new darling of the ARF industry.
I was called by Dick at B&B , my Q52 will be here next week. I will mount her up to the KMP Yak-54 and get her ready for maiden. Come on warm spell in Chicago.

Boss,
One word.... Berg.
Of course even a Berg receiver won't stop someone turnning a radio on ya, but it's awesome at filtering outside interference....
A GWS will plow you in the ground all nite long indoors.

Well,
it looks like this is all the market will bear for this heap.
Watch them to get fire-saled soon. If no one on Ebay is willing to pay for them...who will??
Apparently RCU will not let a direct link to EBAY be posted. So just go to the Buy screen and put this # in the search window.
So........the item # is 5951975363.
I am having a heck of a time with getting the Q-52 to fit... I gotta cut the motor box down[:@]
I may give up on it and call it a loss.
It is just not worth the trouble.

RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?
We have 2 flying in our part of South Africa. One has a 3W 50, and the other, a G62. The 3W balances great, but for the G62, the firewall box was shortened by 40 mm. This assisted with the CG, and also allowed for the length of the motor. With the G62, the battery was put in the tail. Both panes flew great. I think we have received the later batch of aircraft over hear, as they have the newer colour scheme. There is also another colour scheme similar to Jason chulmans scheme, available.
With the 3w 50, the plane had enough power to hover, and pulled out with authority. The G62 also has plenty of steam. I was amazed that with the G62 upfront, the plane weighed only 16Lbs.
Both planes were extremely neutral, and rolls were bery axial. Knife edge is easy, with almost no other control input. One of the guys from the LHS, who flies a 46% Hanger 9 Ultimate, raved about the Yak after flying it. He flew the one with the 3w 50. He says it does things that the Ultimate can't do. Walls are awsome. He has to get one.
The one with the G 62 had some flutter problems with the ailerons. He had not sealed the hinge gaps, nor were his servos up to the job (JR 539's). He has solved this by adding counter weights to the aileron tips.
I have one and it is nearly ready. I am just deciding what motor to use. I have an MVVS 58, but may go for the DA 50, although I have heard they have had some problems with Con Rods. Customer Service may be great in the States, but to ship from here, to the States, for repair, will be expensive.
In terms of kit quality, I spent an evening adding glue to all the joints I could get to. I also spent some time with the covering. Should turn out OK. I will post feedback after flying
Happy flying

RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?
I have a Quadra 52 that is the same length as my G62 w/spring starter .
You say you shave 40mm off the box?? I was trying to figure out how much to cut myself. And I am glad I was not the only one to think about cutting it.
If you tryed a G62 or a Q52 without cutting the box, the flywheel would be sticking out of the cowl.
How far from the cowl is the prop backplate with 40mm cut off?
I am covering the hinge gaps, and planning on beefing the Landing gear. How is yours holding up??
I have spent time on the covering and the glueing.
Good reports may breathe some life into this plane.
Mine will not maiden till spring, I am waiting for good weather for this one.

RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?
eyeguy,
I just cut down my motor box 40mm like Pauldo. My Q52 is the exact same dimension as a G-62, I have both. The prop back will be about 3/4 to 1 inch out from the cowl round edges. I will be using a B&B muffler..the stocker is too big, needs too much cowl cut.
Maiden this weekend if it gets together.

RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?
I am very close to getting mine in the air. But, I am upset that the stabilizers are cut in such a way that the travel limits are severely reduced, compared to the EF Yak.
My Pull-Pull cables can be hit by the stabs at high rate. The diagonal cut on the stab is not deep enough to allow full high rate elevator. That means besides rebuilding the motor box, rebuilding the stabs is necessary to achieve full rate. Drag, man. It also reduces the Rudder rate too.
I will test fly it before I rebuild the stabs....to see if it really needs the extra rate.
How did anyone get the canopy done?? anyone monokote the seam? or did you leave the screws showing???

BossHoss,
Can you post some picks of your rudder tray, and pull-pull install?
I think we may be glueing and Ultracoating the seem of the canopy. A lot of ground to cover yet here too.

Bosshoss, we made some more progress this weekend.. I forgot about the elevator clearance post you put up a couple weeks ago.
Here are some more building pics.
