There is a plethora of varying opinions being generated, that are not based on flight characteristics. I would like to see some posts of building and flying experiences of this airplane. A friend of mine has one, and is going to install a MVVS 58 on the nose. The control surfaces are larger than a wild hare 84" (he has a WH 540 too). Not sure what the final weight will come to, but it will be very competitive for a 50cc class bird. We measured the actual span to be 84”

looks like pretty good construction.
any signs of hot glue when you get up close to the glue joints??

how about the wings, built up or sheeted foam??

maybe its just me, but i would prefer to see sheeted foam for the belly rather than all those stringers.

anyone got one flying yet??

We didn't see a lot of hot glue.

Wings are built up balsa.

I agree that the belly stringers can be a pain especially in shipping to/from the field.

Notice the fiberglass wing tube socket. WH uses cardboard in the fuse and wing. Thought that was a nice touch. the wing tube is ~1" in diameter.

Mine is all but done - my color scheme is not the same - I presume your's was re covered?
This example is lite blue/white -red stripe -- I am adding some trim of another color.
As it is for an article - I will defer any comment to that for the publication

Did someone forget the red copy paragraph below,on RCU policies?
Actually I don't think any of the ARFS use hot glue but I really don't know what it is.
I would bet it is an indigeinous material sorta like made here by Elsie the Borden cow.

THanks for the pics Freedom.

The only thing I Spy in the photos are sloppy glue drips and ragged edges on some of the cuts. The rest looks OK. The aluminum angle on the motor box looks like a good idea , if it is done right.

I dont see a thrust line etched on the firewall, is it clearly explained in the instructions??

Can't wait to hear how it flies.


My friend is working on his and it is a Baby blue w/red stripe job.

Any idea as to how much the plane will weigh with the MVVS 58? I have the exact same engine & muffler setup, that needs a home! Pls keep us posted.

I'm guessing it will be ~16-17 lbs. I told him to get the scales out, and more importantly, GET IT FINISHED and GO FLY IT!

The manual did give some very high level instructions on engine mounting.

Well, I have been busy on my Ultimate, but I did get a chance to go check out the building status this evening of project KMP.[8D] Engine has been mounted, and now the firewall is ready for fiberglass. That MVVS is a sexy piece of equipment man!

We do have a complaint. They glued triangle stock to the back of the cowl tabs??????[:-] I am not a fan of using wood screws for cowls. I'd rather run blind nuts and 4-40 bolts with the neoprene stamped washers to realy grab the cowl. I believe he’ll have to either sand a flat spot on the back of the tab, or glue an inverse piece of triangle to get the surface angle back to parallel.

That stock on the tabs is probably a very good idea. If that plane is anything like the 68" yak the tabs will break off. Mine did in a matter of 30 or so flights.

is that the way the fire wall is out of the box? also it looks like they gave you a grove to put a servo wire tube does it look that way up close? and is that axcess panel stock or did he do that for him self?are the servos on the fuse or elevator and lastly where is the pull pull rudder tray if there is one?

keep up with the piks take as many and post as many as you can fit in that cam i cant get enough

1. He had to locate the center of firewall, measure/mark where the engine would mount. Then added offset to compensate for built in right thrust. To mount the engine, he took the carb/reed valve off the engine first. Double checked marked points for .25 holes, then began to cut/sand hole for carb until Engine would mount, and carb could bolt on from back. Next is fiber glassing the back of the firewall.

2. They did provision for the use of a wire tube, but it didn’t come with the kit. You’ll need to get one form the LHS.

3. There is a access hatch for the top of the engine box.. This is stock. Was this what you were asking?

4. Elevator servos are in the tail. Rudder servo….?? Didn’t come with Rudder servo tray, he will have to fabricate one out of whatever. (carbon? G10?) They do have slot pre-cut in the tail of the fuse for the pull-pull exits.

Just got mine now after a long wait for it. Overall the plane looks great. Looks fairly well built. Huge control surfaces. It is going to be a long winter to wait to test-fly this one. Questions : #1 did you get a construction manual with your planes ? ? I got none and wonder if one exists. #2 the cowl is very, very beautifully painted, but there are several places on mine where the paint is splitting off in a starburst pattern, and there are a few long crack lines in the dark blue paint on the bottom that may lead to more paint splitting off, possibly fairly big pieces of it. Is it just my cowl or are yours like this too ? ? I will send Andrew e-mail to ask about it. I have a G62 sitting here - was wondering if it will be a good choice for this plane. Thanks for your opinion ! !

I took a detailed look at this plane now. I did not see any hot glue at all, but did see epoxy and what looks like CA joints( there was an earlier question about it). The construction seems solid and light. I will run more CA into all the joints like I always do on all ARFs in any way. The covering is very well applied and the color scheme is a lot nicer than the KMP website pic of the YAK. Andrew should update it - this is a beautiful plane. I like the checkerboard pattern on the bottom of the wings - it will provide excellent contrast in flight. I also like the way the wings fit into the fuselage instead of on the outside like on so many other planes. Overall, I really like what I have seen so far. Will have to CA-seal the paint cracks on the cowl - have done this before on other projects with good success. The paint lines on the cowl line up perfectly with the covering on the fuselage. Now - I really hope there is a manual for this baby out there somewhere. Without the manual I don't even know if my ARF is complete ! ! The hardware consists of a small bag of screws and fittings including a tailwheel, and some pushrods. Wheelpants included but no main wheels supplied. Many other ARFs this size do not come with any hardware at all.

Flatlandmike, The hatches in the tail, are for the Tail Wheel.. I guess so you can tack CA to the blind nuts..?

Eveguy, are you moving forward with installing the CA hinges? I have mixed opinions of them. They are large, and plenty per control surface, but... I have heard bad news concerning CA hinges. I haven’t had a bad experience myself ( on 120 size planes ), as long as you drill a hole in the centerline of the slot and inject plenty of CA into the hole.
