RE: YAK 54 TOC1
Dear Brothers
I am finally getting around to assembling my TOC 30% Yak and am at the point of installing the rudder and linkage / control wires........... Does anybody have pictures depicting where the control wires exit the fuselage? Thanks all!

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
Hello Mo
Take a look. There are holes or slots under the covering under the horizontal stab. You need to find 'em and open them up a bit. Do not just cut a hole and pass the cables thru. You do NOT want any rubbing of the cables on the fuselage because eventually one will snap, and then the rudder will explode itself fluttering to death - at which point you have an expensive smoking hole in the ground.
I had to use a dremel tool to elongate the slots a bit to ensure no rubbing. Good luck! GREAT plane!! You'll love it.
Best,
Dave

Mo,
Just a suggestion. This plane turns out tail heavy in most cases if you are using an engine similar in weight to a DA-50. I placed my rudder servo far forward as possible. You may want to balance the plane with all equipment installed before deciding where to locate the rudder pull pull. Generally, the further forward location is better for this plane.
My 30% SD Yak is still slightly tail heavy even with 3 Li Ion battery packs on the motor box.

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
Thank you Jaketab
I'll be running the DA-50 as well but using 2(ea) A123's. This should help. Did you find that the Yak flew tail heavy at the mfg's recommended 6.5" aft of the wing leading edge? Thank you
Jerry

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
I'll be getting one of these to replace my AW 29% Edge, and will be using a DLE-55. I've read back aways and have a couple of questions: For those who have used the DLE-55, will the stock muffler work inside the cowl or will I need a cannister? I see this comes out tail heavy and I've read that the tail wheel that comes with the plane is pretty poor. I have a titanium tail wheel from somewhere and plan to use it. The version I'm getting will be the "HD". Have the older "issues" been resolved? Is the spinner ok?
Thanks
Sam

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
This plane is no longer produced, what a shame. SD models kaput, and I think the company now is RC Pilot. I think the CF landing gear is the same on both companies yaks.
The stock tail wheel on the sd yak must be replaced for a good one. I don´t used a side muffler on mine, but I think it will fit fine inside the cowl.
For what I remember, you need to reinforce where the canopy is atached to the fuse. And I had to replace the firewall aluminium angles.
The spinner is heavy, and some people had problems with it. But the yak looks fine without it.
I have beated this plane for almost 2 years and it always came back for more[>:] Very strong plane with wonderful flying characteristics.

Great to hear that!!! I need a new canopy.
Somewhere in this forum you can find a pdf archive with a lot of info about building and setting up this plane. But i don´t remember the exact page.

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
Are the RC Pilot 30% Yaks the same as this....SD,TT, etc? I am specifically interested in the CG....somewhere in this forum someone states that the plane should balance by holding the wing tube( without the wings on), and that the nose should be down about 3 degrees. Any opinions please? By the way the new RC Pilot planes are beautiful and really well done, with the exception of no up to date instruction manual....Thanks WC

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
The manual that comes with the new Thunder Tiger Yak says to start with the CG on the wing tube. It does not mention anything about removing the wings to check CG. I'll most likely start with that. Guys on the thread have been saying that 6.5" is a good start point and many have moved it back. Is it the same as the Pilot yak? I dont' know, although I've read that somebody who left SD started the Pilot line, and my tank has "SDM" (I am assuming that this is "S.D. Models") on the side.

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
DaddySam...I got my RC Pilot 30% Yak from Chief Aircraft, but Troy Built Models also carries them and they state in the intro to the RC Pilot planes about the current planes being made by the old SD people....something to that effect. But no one seems to have an updated manual...........Thanks for the info about the CG, that is a big help......WC

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
I would "guess" that it is set up for gas, but I ended up using a Sullivan tank with a Dubro stopper so I could put the tank in the cannister tunnel. If the stopper starts to degrade, it seems like it would ruin a days' flying when you discovered it...

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
You can use the stoper that comes with it. The plane was designed for a 50cc gas engine. No reason for them to give you a stopper designed for glo fuel.
Good luck with the plane I have had one for about 3 years and it is my favorite plane.
Edward.
