I felt the same way, Scott. In Fact, my 88" has not left the van since early May.
Whirly and I can't get enough, I just wish I could stop smoking. [:-][:-]

Anyone know what color yellow is on the Y&B one? It is ultracote right? I learned this stupid move called the tail touch... At least that is what we call it. Needless to say I need yellow.

RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
It was an easy fix thank god. Fixed it last night took maybe 10 min. Believe it or not the plane came in very soft, right on the top of the plane. All it did was hit the rudder. Cowl and canopy does not even have a scratch. I was lucky this time. At least I got it out of the way. Crash that is... Seems like all my planes hit at least once.

I need a source for KS 1060 pipes and DA50 headers other than Desert Aircraft. It will be several weeks until their KS shipment comes in. Alternatively the MTW would be okay. Any sources? or anyone have a set to part with? Also, what is the header drop? Rennie, should I just shuck out the bucks for the ES pipe?

Try EF. I think Chris carries that set up. I'll be ordering the same along with a DA and a Red/White when the next slow boat comes in.
If Chris dosen't have stock try Troy Built Models.

Mike,
I fly at a small club in Lovettesville, VA for the gas stuff currently. I also belong to another club where you can fly smaller stuff... www.lcaa.org . I might be able to get away with doing 3D at the LCAA club if I use a cannister..we'll see.
NVRC lost their field some time ago and they've been busting their butts to get something else going. They did find a good field but the horse people in the area are trying to squash their plans. We'll see what happens.

got bad bras graphics(one word).com He has packages already for the 88. He also has a lot of other stuff to. I e-mailed him and he called me right away and is a great gut to talk to. He can tell what size you need depending on where you put it on the plane

RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
I filmed this tonight (last post)at the Ormond electric field (flying EF electric Extra 300). The neatest thing is that after I stopped making the video (with my cheap camera) I went back for batteries #2-4. After about 5 minutes there was a distant sound of thunder/like a jet on takeoff and it was the sound from the shuttle reaching us about 85 miles away downwind.
So cool, I wanna go!!! Back to my rc world where I am the PIC.

RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
Hey Richard,
I'm struggling with the battery choice for my YAK. Since you have been experimenting with this "123 battery" (I have no real clue what I'm referencing here) , what is your end conclusion if you have one at this time? Go with the 123 or NiMH, LiPo, NiCd ? I currently am comfortable with NiMH, but the Duralite "Switch and Save " Li-ion package --
http://www.duralitebatteries.com/packages_sw.html - - looks like a good way to convert. My comfort zone with batteries is NiMH, but I'm prepared to move toward a more updated and lighter type. Less weight in the "battery department" in my YAK would be a good thing. I have a rather heavy 5" spinner for starters; so I am fairly guilty in the "your adding extra weight dude" dept.
Can you provide a link to where you purchased the 123 and the needed charger "yak-yak", and your final opinion on the 123 verses all these other options?
Now I'm not one to deliberlty complicate my life, so please recommend from the reference point of a low tech maintenance regime! That is my first priority! I would hate to lose a(nother) plane due to an ignorance factor. (I've been in this hobby since 1978, so yes I can claim most all reasons !)
Change can be good when it is done with due diligence!
(hey post a pic or two if you have the time and gumption too- curious what the batts and charger even look like unless a web link does the job!)
Thanks! - I hope this Q isn't perceived as a diversion from the "YAK build thread" purpose.

RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
Tail winds
I have been using Duralites Lith-ion Batteries and Power boxes for the last four years. I've had only one issue with the batteries (thank-god there are redundant. In the 50cc EF Yak I have one Duralite redendant pack- 4 cell 4000mah w/ Duralite Regulator Switch for the receiver, and 2150 mah 2-cell w/ Duralite Regualtor Switch. I can easily get 10-12 flights on a charge. Each Duralite Battery has a built in circuit board for Balanced charging, and it protectes the pack form over charging. You also can use other chargers if programmed correctly. I usually just plug them in and charge the packs overnight.and forget em till the next moring. All my gassers have Duralites in them. To me they are low-maintenance and very reliable. The price is worth the piece of mind as well.
Just my 2 cents,
Rennie

Damn, this decision is not a hands down easy choice!
Rennie - "Pithy" and helpful! Thanks for the great reply. I'm leaning toward the familiarity route.
Richard - good call too to PM me. Thanks for typing all that info. I do appreciate the efforts. I owe you a cold - home brewed one! It might have been better for me to simply ask you about visiting one of your fields for a day of flying and battery talk!
No kidding- after that day at Daytona with the majority of the planes making my 87" w.s look like 'duh' beginner- I'm almost close to divorcing my home turf!
Bigger is so much betta!

Mark....news flash....gas prices are down 2 cents this week, come on over. Keep me in the loop on your preflight preparations.
You could do the stoopid thing like I did and join multiple clubs. Hang with these friends this week, others on other times.... I will have to find out our "Guest" policy ...maybe you might come on over once or thrice again to see if it is what you want. Maiden in Daytona. (sounds like a movie)
Dawn patrol with a squadron onfyaks could be cool.[8D]

I'm waiting for RC Cats to return my RC100 with the added diode to allow the 6 volt hook up used for the ignition too.
I'll be in touch- I really can't think of a better field to maiden from!
