RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
ok i got to ask this question, have any of you broke your wing tube?i was doing some walls, blenders just having way to much fun. going along flat and level about 1/3 throttle cut throttle and slam it into a wall. then i heard it CRACK and this was about the third one i did that day.got it back down with no more damage to the plane. but broke the tube on both sides of fuse, you could see when coming in for landing that both wing tips were about a inch and a half higher then the center (instant trainer yak)! not complaining i know i fly my planes hard but that is what these are for rite and not to set on the ground and just look good.
are all carbon tubes the same wall thickness?should i look around for a heavier tube? or just call Chris for a stock one,or i could just not fly it so hard. NOT!

dont know, maybe it was defective, cause chris himself does some violent stuff and designs them to take it, id call him and ask his opinion, see if he suggests a stronger one or thinks it was a bad one

For all of you powering your Yak with the DA-50. What length standoffs are you using??? I have a set of 3 inch standoffs on hand....

I'm not quite a WOW member yet!!! I'm still straddling the fence as I'm waiting to see what the 50cc Hangar 9/Carden Yak looks like. More than likely I'm going to pull the trigger on the EF Yak as I think it is larger than the H-9/Carden and I'm not that crazy about the color scheme on the H-9/Carden .
I did recently build an EF Yak (Actually two-A 74" and an 88") for a buddy of mine).....Nice planes!!!

What a sturdy airframe. I was flying with my buddy Medwin today doing some formation stuff. He was ripping up the sky with his 88 inch Rumble Bee all day today....anyway he calls a hammerhead to knife edge spin and half way down says ""I don't have it any more." That sucker went straight down engine and radio off (failsafe) going slowly to an inverted spin.
On the long walk thru the bushes to get to it he kept saying, ""It's gotta be totaled.""
Medwin is fixing a broken prop, some cracking on the cowl and a hole in the leading edge of the wing....maybe an hour of work to be airborne again.
Amazing!

The Spectrum locked out when the battery went to 4.4 v (who knows what it was in the KE spin). The 4.4 v was after we retrieved the plane and had it back at the clubhouse.
Somewhere he remembered 6.5 to 6.6 volts at being a "full charge" for the single A123-2300 two cell. (he was babysitting the Hobbico charger and manually turning off the charge at these voltages) It took three efforts to re-form the charge on the TP-1010 charger before it would charge normal (from under voltage) and I am not sure but think we put back in somewhere between 1600 and 2000+ MAH.
That was his 5th flight of the day, all hard 3D and most flights around 20 minutes.
Ya gotta know your equipment. [>:]
Notice the orientation in the bushes, again it was a pure vertical down line still inverted.
I sent him the photos and told him he now has a free airplane cause he is oh so lucky to get it back with this little damage.

Now I probably cursed myself for saying that..[]
The a123 batteries are fine,if you watch them carefully.

Really has nothing to do with Spektrum you shouldn't let you batteries get that low on any setup really.

RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
Had another guy at the field who let his two lithium 2400's with regulators go so low that his PCM glitched on the runway. I had that deer in the headlights look cauz it was a coming straight at me (26X10 WOT) when his rudder responded he made the turn and got airborne again. He landed safely that day last year (each battery at 3.8 or so volts) and got a free airplane out of it too.....
Moral of the story, none of em work very well without a charged battery to drive them.
A full day at the field on my EF-88 might use 1200 mAh, but my secret to success is to start with a FULL BATTERY!!

That is also very tru for any setup. Esp. knowing those a123 batteries drop out very steep when their ready to recharge..Also get the correct charger so you dont have to play the guessing game..

Yup its amazing how much better the batteries work when their fully charged.. I check them before everyflight. I use Lithium Ion myself. If thier questionable put them on charge until your ready to fly again.
