I have been pondering getting a 50cc plane and this one is on the short list. I was wondering if any of you'se are transporting, or have a chance to see if on fits, in a Toyota Xtra Cab pickup. I have an '01 Tacoma that I would like to see if the fuse fits in, corner to corner, without the stabs. I *think* it will from some calculations and measuring, but I want to be sure, $650 is a lot to not be able to get it to the field.

Mike
My QQ YAK would fit diagonal in the back of my Nissa Titan, but the EF YAK won't, so I came up with this and it works great. I need to get another 5x8 trailer.

Mokken...

Holy Cow...you need a bigger truck. My Nissan Titan has a bigger bed. That's a pretty cool idea though. I might use something like that to tie mine down better. I use motorcycle straps and they work pretty good but it's hard to get them tight enough without breaking something.

Thanks
Barry

I have the crew cab, so only 5ft bed, 7 with the tailgate down. You must have the king cab, you get the 6ft+ bed.

The rail system that comes with the Titan has so many possibilities. I'm using the small rail blocks to hold the plywood down. It works great. First time I transported the plane was with the tail sitting on the tailgate.. Wrong!! Too much wind, so I switched it around, tail surfaces don't move at all. Other than it raining, this works great. But I need to get another 5x8 trailer. Would be nice to bring my big Cessna to the field too. Priorities..Priorities!! Right now those are my kids...haha...

Yeah mine is the King Cab with a 6.5' bed. I really like the truck. The hold down system is 2nd to none. I haul motorcycles, pipe, and other stuff and I just love the tie down system. It's the best. Sooner or later the other guys are gonna have to do the same thing or they'll never get my business again. Just too handy.

And raining is a pain. I've been trapped at the field with a plane in the back before. I have to try and cover it with a tarp or something. Pain in the neck. Makes me wish I had a cover on the truck.

Anyways, cool idea with the plywood.

Thanks
Barry

More questions. I bought a piece of 1" wooden dowel and am planning on sliding it through the fuselage wing tube. I will then drop the dowel into a rack in the back of the pick up. The plane would rest on the landing gear with the dowel holding the fuse in place. Is this an acceptable method of securing the plane, assuming a nice snug fit between the fuse tube and dowel?

I wouldn't tie down any airplane through the wing tube, but that's just me.

Cooling idea. I was thinking of cutting the covering away from f1 where the pipe would be if i had a pipe. Then cut the covering away on the bottom of the fuse right behind where the oil cooler section is on the cowl. Then add a 1/16 balsa diverter to direct the air down and keep it from going down the length of the tunnel. Any of you thought about this or tried it? Seems like it would give a about twice the area to vent the air.

That sounds reasonable and the air would be exhausting right behind the cylinder head.

That is similar to how mine is. I have the DA, baffle glued in the cowl, covering removed from tunnel at the inlet and on the bottom I removed the covering from the last bay at the rear of the tunnel. No deflector on the outlet but the only cutout I have on the cowl is for the stock muffler. Looks nice, I have plently more oulet than inlet for airflow, and manual choke is still not a problem.

Yeah, I meantioned that as a possibility to increase air exit.

Open the tunnel face and a bay at the back of the tunnel. Spray painting flat lvlack on the balsa inside that area wuold make it nearly impossible to see in the air...

Mike,
I have an 06 Tacoma xtra cab and this thing will not fit corner to corner. The landing gear is too wide to let you move the front all the way to the corner and I think the 06 has a wider bed than the 01 but not sure. I have a camper on mine and I leave the tailgate down. I put it in nose first and place a blanket between the cone and front of camper, then I place a bungee from side to side behind the landing gear, then I place a bunge on each side of the tailwheel to the corner of the bed. Works well but plane is a little dusty when I get to the field. I'll get pics if you think you need them.

I finished my Yak just minutes ago, I weighed it on my postage scale. 15 pounds and 14.5 ounces. After a few flights, I'll be swaping out all the servo's except the rudder for the new Bluebird 830 DMG digital coreless servo's, About the same power as the Hitec 5945/5985's only 2 ounces liter on 4 of them. I'll then be 15 pounds 12.5 ounces.

here's the short list

SD models CF gear
JRR Custom lightened 3" standoffs
JRI Custom lightened axles
4'' Dave Brown "lite" wheels
DA-50 engine
DL-50 (Dong Ling) muffler (liter than the DA muffler)
4800 Fromeco Rec.
1500 JR Nimh Ign.
Smart fly failsafe HD regulator
23 x 8 NX prop.
5945 and 5955 hitecs

Maudib did my graphics, they are absolutly awsome, I'll apply them tomorrow.

Wow that's light! Mine came in at 17lbs 9ounces. Ditto on the Maudib graphics. Mine are top notch. So good in fact I made a second order. I have a feeling we will see alot of Yak videos posted after this weekend.

Wow, There must be less gravity in Wisconsin then in California Or my Postal scale is way off. I posted a few pages back with my AUW and equipment used. I will have to confirm with my friends scale to see if mine is off or use a Quarter or something. A 1.5 lbs lighter than mine. I hope mine is lighter then 17.5 lbs, I was kinda bummed with the weight, but then again I had a 17lbs Wild Hare 84" Edge that floated like a trainer and had plenty of power to Hover, And was MUCH smaller in comparison. It is ready to maiden but the weather sucks so just waiting for the weather and a day off from work.
