RE: Giant Sweet and low stik
Personally on a plane this size I would only use the Robart hinge points OR the true epoxy hinges that have pins in them. For the simplicity of install Robarts would be my go to, and that's what in my Nosen Citabria, Uravitch 80" Bronco, and my US 1000.
That's my 2 cents!

RE: Giant Sweet and low stik
Thanks Bill, I found a few old packages of the Klett large pin hinges in my shop. I will use those.
I closed up the center of the wing and put cap strips on all of the ribs. I will be starting the tail surfaces in a short while. tomorrow, a little sanding on the wing and then glass the center section.

Sometimes old nylon nylon gets brittle. Try flexing a hinge leaf to see if it is. If so, boiling for a few minutes will restore the flexibility. Remember the old nylon props?
Just a thought. Good luck.

I sanded the wing. It still needs a small piece of triangle stock to finish the leading edge. A trip to town and the hobbyshop is in order for tomorrow, I also ran out of CA. These bigger planes eat alot of glue. I am trying to do most of it with wood glue. I glassed the center section, and then started on the Rudder. Let that all set up , and back at it later.

Just looking ahead. The first photo is the Fuselage sides, they are long and in two pieces. What kind of glue should I use to attach the halves together at the zig-zag joint ? CA, epoxy, or wood glue? The same for the large lite ply doublers ?

RE: Giant Sweet and low stik
I sanded the rudder, put the 1/8"x1/4" bracing in and got it closed up. Then got started on the vertical stabilizer. Now I need to clean off the work bench to make room for the horizontal stabilizer and the fuselage. I am continually amazed at how fast and how totally chaotic my work space gets in just a short time. I need to get more balsa and supplies tomorrow. Perhaps I will get a few things done in the evening...

After the trip to the hobby shop. I sanded the vertical stab to shape, and added the sheeting on the other side. Then glued the triangle on the leading edge. tomorrow I can final sand the airfoil shape. then cleaned off a bunch of stuff off the work bench to start on the horizontal stab and elevators. Thehrizontal stabilizeris sheeted, so I made some skins, they will be dry tomorrow and I will knock that out, along with servo mounts for the ailerons and the wingtips.

RE: Giant Sweet and low stik
Today, I put the internal structure in the horizontal stabilizer in place, then glued on the top sheeting, and weighted it down. Then cut out the elevators and cut the hinge slots. I CA'd the fuse sections together and epoxied the doublers in place. I did not realize the wingtips were laminated together, so I glued allof those parts up and clamped them. Last but not least, I cut the hinge slots in the rudder and vertical stab.I will keep plugging away, a little at a time. Spring is still a long way off here...

Still plugging away... I finished the horizontal stab and elevators. Glued the doublers for the stab on the fuse sides. I have been cutting out parts that were not part of the short kit. The wingtip parts are ready to go together. I will snap a couple of pics tomorrow.

RE: Giant Sweet and low stik
Been at it a bit. I put servo mounting plates in the aft fuselage sides. This should help balance the heavy old Quadra on the front end. I started putting the fuslage formers in place. The horizontal stabilizer and elevators are done, as is the vertical stab and rudder. The wingtips are glued up and ready for sanding. ..... Question, does anyone have a link for gas engine fuel tank set-ups. I am relatively new to the gassers, I am not sure if I set them up correctly or not. Since I fly at home on the farm, I have no one to ask around here....Thanks in advance,
Dennis

For the simplicity of it I use a 2 line system going into the tank. One is the vent and the other the pick-up. Once outside the tank I use a T and use one line for fill annd the other one to the carb. The vent I bring out through the firewall and down to the bottom of the fuse. Just make sure everything you use will worl with gas. eg. Tygon fuel line and tank stopper.

RE: Giant Sweet and low stik
I got some work done this evening. The fuselage sides are glued to the formers. I attached the tailwheel to the 1/4" ply plate and epoxied it to the fuse. all of the 1/4 square bracing is in, and finally the 3/16" top sheeting is glued down and rough sanded. Pics do not want to post tonight, I get an internal server error message when I try to load them. Back to work for me, so no updates until late next week...

RE: Giant Sweet and low stik
I have the basic fuselage structure complete. The top and bottom sheeting is on The plywood gear plate is installed. I have sanded the leading edge of the wing to the correct shape, and made up aileron servo trays. As I sit here and type this I realize that I di not make a throttle servo tray. But...I still have not decided on which engine to use. I just got a convertedRyobi 31cc. I may try that and save the Quadra for a short nosed WW1 type that needs some weight in the nose. Any thoughts ?...thats all for now
