Default Help with 1st giant scale

I recently assembled my first giant scale plane, a Great Planes Ultimate. What I cant figure out and the sketchy instructions don't explain is how you get four aileron servos to operate on one port on the reciever. Same with the dual elevator servos, how is it they will go in the same direction and not operate like ailerons when tied together with a y-harness? Any help is greatly appreciated.

each of those is a seperate issue

Ailerons, typically with a 1 servo setup you have one aileron on the left of the servo and 1 on the right.. so when the servo moves 1 goes up and 1 goes down

    For a 2 servo setup you keep the rigging the same... on 1 servo you have the connection on the right, on the other servo you have it on the left... what this does is since the servos move together you get the same function, one goes up, one goes down

    For 4 servos on a biplane, just multiply the above by 2.

    if for some reason you've set them up with all connections on the same sides of the servos... then  you'd need to use seperate channels on your radio and connect them together or get a servo reverser.



For the elevator... like I've described it above... you can either keep both connections on the same side of each elevator servo, or hook it up as its conventient to you and use multiple channels on your radio to control each servo.

Yes the radio make will help as some radios will adjust and sync two servos on one control surface. If you don't have a radio that will do this then you can install a matchbox or equalizer.
For the elevator, again if you have a radio that can mix then you program the two channels for each servo into a mix that will work the elevators in the right direction. If not then you can get or make a reversed servo and install it on one side and use a "Y" harness.
To confuse it even more, If you use digital servos then those can be programmed for reverse and they can be closely matched for center, end points, etc...

The radio is a Spektrum dx6i. I have been flying R/C for over 40yrs. but this is the first larger than .60 size plane for me. Here's what im having touble with, I have 2 wings with 4servo's. Each wings servos are coupled with a Y-harness witch leaves me 2 connectors. Do I connect them with another Y-harness? There is only one aileron conn. on any reciever that I've ever seen. Next is the elevator, if I tie those 2 servos together with a Y wont they operate like ailerons? I also am using 2 servos for the rudder but I figured that would work normal because they need to go in different directions.

The easiest way for your radio is to use the JR Matchbox. It also comes in sets of two. It allows you to match up to 4 servos through one port.

This is how I have always set up a bib.
In the main program set up flaporons. this give you two channels for the wing. Next slave 5 to the elevator.
Starting with the wing. Set up the Rt. upper and lower wing using a Y to split ch. 2. Then do the same on the Lt. ch.6 Align the ailerons using the linkage. check the direction using the servo reverse function.
You do the same on the elevator. Each servo to it's own ch. One of the servos will have to be reversed. Align the servo horns using sub trim.
After your done with your set up set up the D/R on the DR screen this will work on all the ch.

Depending on the model receiver you are using you may not have enough spare channels available to do everything.
I would get a matchbox and plug it into the aileron channel and then plug all 4 aileron servos in the matchbox and adjust each of them.
You can use the elevator channel and a spare channel to mix for the elevator servos and you can use the rudder channel and another spare channel to mix for the dual rudder servos.
