Ron I am sitting here looking at these pictures and I am absolutely blown away at the meticulous work you have done. I bet you when Wendell drew those plans he probably never envisioned such a stunning example of a twin turboprop version. What Fly-ins do you plan to take the plane to for 2011? I hope the Joe Nall is in the mix. You REALLY should think about shooting for Top Gun. That plane would place very high.
Could you please post video of both the initial run up and flight. Also I'd love to see some video of the retracts working.

Beautiful plane and craftsmanship. I might point out and I don't know if it has already been stated as I didn't read all the posts but there was never a 421 turboprop. 421's were all piston powered, the Cessna 425 also known as the Corsair(originally) or Conquest 1 was the turboprop version. I have flown both full scale 421's and 425's and like most Cessna products are great planes.

I am aware of the incorrect number designation, but I am not able to edit the title, probably due to the age of the build thread.

Realy nice plane you have built! Just WOW! I just got a 71" wing span arf of a 421(a toy compared to your's) and that is big for me but yours is awsome. My dad owned a 414 and I will paint mine like his old plane. Would like to see your big bird fly.

Dear Ron,
Add mine to the long list of earnest praise for your opus. Thank you sincerely for sharing this with the rest of us. I have a 24% Precision Cut kit languishing in my larder, I hope I can summon the gumption and courage to crack it open and start building. Your saga is a gift, and an inspiration. Please list the opportunities, in the future, for us to see this bird "live". Big congrats.

Ron congrats on a beautiful build, I have been lurking and watching but staying quiet.
That will really be one impressive plane when the turbines come to life. I can't wait to see a flight video.

I have begun the process of balancing. The plans show the balance point, but it seems to far forward to my eye...
So I called Wendell and we discussed the correct location. Seems 22% from the leading edge or 4 1/8 inches.
Any of you flown this model. If so, I would appreciate your input on this subject!!
Happy New Year!!

RE: 27% Cessna 421 Twin Turbo Prop
I use the CG location of the plans, i need 5 lbs of weight in the nose, but the plane fly well... maybe i could change it but as it fly well i wont change...
And a litle weight for this plane is not a problem...

Heraldo,
Thanks for that . I did some calculations using full scale weight and balance specs and it does come out to 22-24% rear of the LE at the root.
I would rather it be nose heavy for the maiden than the alternative!!
Happy New Year all!!!

Nose heavy flies poorly, tail heavy flies once! You've made a pretty good decision as to the balance point. I think it'll work, let us know how that goes!!

RE: 27% Cessna 421 Twin Turbo Prop
I actually did the first taxi test during the IMAA festival. There are a couple of issues to work out before the first flight. Due to the busy schedule...(3 fly-ins in 4 weeks), the backlog of repairs and motor orders in the shop, plus the maiden flights of 3 other projects...I have not had a chance to address them.
The nose steering has way to little authority and the braking system needs to have the fittings opened up to allow better air flow to the brakes...as it takes to long for the brakes to grab.
I have come to accept the fact that this project will fly when IT is ready...and to set a date for the maiden is unrealistic.
