I have just installed a Nelson pull pull set up in my 33%. Nelson uses long 8/32 screws through the rudder to which ball links are attached, and a straight arm on the bell crank tray. The location of the hardwood in the rudder panel did not allow for me to get the ball link center line precisely on the hinge line but it is within 1/4". The cables are crossed in the fuse to accomodate a straighter shot at the rudder control horns and are fairly tight at center. But when I swing the rudder one direction or the other the opposing cable goes completely slack in the fuse. I don't think this is normal. For one thing, in a tail slide, the rudder could be forced into the pulling cable. Where did I screw up?

The distance from the rudder hinge line to the point the cable contacts the control horn and the distance from the servo arm attach point to the point the cable attaches to the servo arm have to be the same distance. And since your cable cross both the output arm and the control horns should be at a slight angle so that the cable is 90 degrees to each of them when the system is in neutral position. HTH

Thank you for the response. I squared everything up and still have a little slack in the opposing cable. although not as much as before. As you suggested, the pivot point at the control horn is about 3/8" behind the hinge line. I used a curved arm at the servo tray that is curved 3/8" toward the rudder control horns. The cables cross midway. The only thing I did not do is bend the control horn post forward to achieve the suggested 90 degree to the servo arm. I have a ball link there that swivels around to point directly at the servo. Is it still imperative to have the rudder control post absolutely perpendicular to the servo arm? Should the cables maintain the same tension through full rudder deflection or do they go a little slack at full deflection?
