Hey Bob,
Can't help you with your cowl, but you could sure help me if you don't mind.
Have been interested in the Clip Winged version for a while and you're the first one to post on here as having one.
How about a review?
Likes dislike etc.
How does she handle?

RE: World Models 1/3 Super Cub
SODBUSTER,
I BOUGHT THE WORLD MODELS CLIP WING CUB DIRECT FROM AIRBORNE MODELS IN CALIF.THEY SENT THE CUB BY GREYHOUND BUS AND TOOK 4 DAYS. EVERYTHING WAS IN GREAT SHAPE, THE COVERING WAS THE BEST YET OUT OF THE BOX AND THE INSTRUCTIONS WERE SIMPLE. THE HARDWARE PACKAGE WAS GOOD WITH A GREAT TAIL. WHEEL. THE MAIN LANDING GEAR DOES FLEX WITH A RUBBER BAND CENTER. THE GEAR DID COME LOOSE WHERE IT WAS WIRED AND I WELDED IT AND THAT TOOK CARE OF THAT. EVERYTHING FIT WELL AND LOOKS GREAT. I BOUGHT A 3-W 106 FROM BOBBY AT CACTUS AVAITION IN TUSCON. AZ AND HE IS A GREAT GUY TO WORK WITH. THE MOTOR STARTED RIGHT UP AND AT 25% POWER TOOK OFF STRAIGHT IN 20 FEET AND LIFTED THE TAIL WHEEL IN 5 FEET. IT CLIMBS OUT OF SITE WITH EASE, SNAP ROLLS, LOOPS, SLOW FLIGHT IS EXCELLENT AND LANDS SLOW AND STABLE LIKE THE REAL THING. I AM VERY HAPPY AND LIKED THE PLANE SO MUCH, THAT I BOUGHT A FULLY FUNCTIONING LANDING GEAR FROM BEN WALLACE AND IT MAKES THE PLANE STICK TO THE GROUND AND FOLLOWS THE CONTOUR PERFECTLY. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED, IF YOU BUY ONE..IT IS A BLAST AND EVERYONE LIKES IT. THE ONLY NEGATIVE COMMENT WAS THAT THEY DID NOT RADIUS THE COVERING ALONG THE RUDDER AND STABILIZER IN THE FRONT PORTION. IT IS SQUARE. I LOVE MY CUB AND HANDLES BETTER THAN I AM A PILOT, THEREFORE WE DO WELL TOGETHER. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS YOU MAY CALL ME AT 1-517-546-0310 THANKS BOB

RE: World Models 1/3 Super Cub
Picked up my WM SuperCub. Wow, a great looking plane. Got a DL100 for it with Wallace gear. Our local HobbyTown was running a dealer cost special for our club. $640 out the door, can't beat that deal.

RE: World Models 1/3 Super Cub
I JUST READ YOUR ARTICLE AND I PURCHASED THE WM 1/3 CLIP WING CUB AND PUT A 3-W 106 ON IT AND WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAVE ANY PICTURES OF YOUR COWLING MOUNTED, SO THAT I CAN SEE HOW YOU SET UP YOUR AIR VENTILATION. I AM STILL IN THE BREAK IN PERIOD WITH MINE AND IT SEEMS TO RUN WARM WITH RICH NEEDLE SETTINGS.
THANKS BOB

RE: World Models 1/3 Super Cub
Hey Bob, haven't mounted my motor yet but I've seen several of these with 100's in them and all they do is have the cylinders hanging out the side with a small hole in the front for the carb ventilation and then the underside cut to accept the mufflers. I wouldn't think they would run hot with the cylinders hanging out like they do. But, I haven't mounted mine yet so I can't say for sure. Thanks, Jerry.

Any of you guys found a instrument panel for this plane? Looking for something premade if possible. I'm trying to dress up my cabin area as much as possible. Thanks, Jerry.

RE: World Models 1/3 Super Cub
Thought I'd post some pics of the WM Super Cub. I finished the cabin area, added a couple of pilot busts, William Wallace gear, cut up an instrument panel and added wingbolts instead of screws in the wing tubes. DL100 power plant.

I have a Fuji 64A in mine and it flies fine. Will fly loops, rolls, knife edge, stall turns and inverted with no problems. Only thing is, I had to add a bit of weight onto the firewall to get it to balance. I think that is why they call for a twin 80cc.

RE: World Models 1/3 Super Cub
Gonna bring this thread back to the top- I just got my Cub last night! Still waiting on the DL100 to come in- it's going to be here on Tuesday.
About how long did it take you guys to get it airborne, from kit to flying? Shouldn't be too long, I'm sure.
I decided on a PT Carbon 28X8 prop (not scale, I know- but with a DL100 up front, it's not going to fly scale any-whoo. And besides, I'll paint the tips of the prop white to give it a somewhat scale appearance!)
I've also got a set of 6" Durbro pneumatic tires to throw on it too- I can't wait!!

Spent about five evenings on mine. One of those shoe horning that cowl around the DL100. Do yourself a favor and put the choke on a servo. I had a heck of time finding a solution to manually choke the engine. I'm at 5000' altitude and the DL100 turns the cub into a missle. At sea level it'll be ballistic. One other note, you'll need 15% down elevator with the flaps deployed. Send us some pictures, Jerry.

RE: World Models 1/3 Super Cub
Hi, guys. I'm building one now and am converting it to electric. My friend is also building a 1/3 TWM CUB, but his is the J-3. It'll be cool to see both at in the air at the same time.
I'm doing some mods on mine. I'd like to convert it to the greenhouse version, but first I'll just make it with transparent Super Cub roof. I'd also like to recover it with solartex and put on a scale landing gear if I can find someone who sells them. I machined the motor mounts in my CNC router. They have rubber mounts to eliminate the whining resonance sound electrics produce through the airframe. the J3 has a 17 mm shorter mount than the Super and a slightly different configuration to test shich one works best to reduce the whine. The motors are Turnigy motors from China. they cost $83 each and should be more than up to the job. I expect mine to end up with an AUW of ~27-31 lbs with batteries. The duration will possibly be 15-30 minutes.

RE: World Models 1/3 Super Cub
I think Wallace is better suited for printed communication. I downloaded his order form and filled it out and sent it in with a check and 9 days later I got my gear. Very nice gear but I'm still confused on just what those tabs on the rear are for? Anybody got any ideas on why he puts those there? I was guessing may strut supports but seems a little weak for that. Thanks, Jerry.
