RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna
Hello Johnny,
Yes Tru Turn can now cut Beila propeller.
I had a 4" Spinner ordered from America cut especially for my 29x10 three blade prop, the very same as yours.
I am impressed that Tru Turn can cut to selected propeller styles.
My Cessna is coming along nicely. I have been reworking the lighting and have since replaced the LED in the vertical tail fin and also added a clear 10mm LED to the rear tail cone. This will make the lighting more visible during daylight conditions.
I will be using a Rotating Beacon Simulator module to manage the lighting power source and to also make the red vertical tail LED pulse like a real Cessna.
I sourced this module from Thompson Automation in the USA. http://www.thomson-automation.com/RC...34/1034en.aspx
I just have to replace the wing tip LED's with clearwater (brighter intensity) and also complete the installation for the LUXON style lamp units to be used as the landing lights.
I have to say that the original LED's that Tommy had fitted were probably more than ample and he has obviously spent allot of time putting the lighting system together.
The reason I have gone ahead and done this is that I wanted to use the brightest led's available on the market and because I can.
The final touch to the lighting will be fitting a Xenon flashing unit which uses real xenon flash tubes. Similar to camera flash tubes and just a smaller version of a full size variant.
All in all it is coming together nicely. I'll keep you all posted once I have more to show.
Cheers guys,
Steve

As Steve said, they will cut for the Bielafor any prop actually. I've been in contact with them and they are waiting for me to send them my Biela. I told them I don't have it yet because I wanted to make sure my puppy arrived undamaged; well, no damage, so I'll order the prop now.
I said it would take me a year to build; well, I changed my mind

Hi Fellows;
A good day for some reading on the R/C Universe thread. Boy, are we getting dumped on with snow, I envy you folks who either don't have to worry about the "fluffy stuff" or don't presently have it.
Anyway, nice looking outfits that you fellows are putting together. I presently have a little smaller version of the C-182 (27%) that I will be putting on amphib. floats this year. See attached pic.
I am seriously thinking of adding one of the 35%ers to my fleet.
DJ, your 182 looks great, glad she arrived with no "hiccups". I know what you mean re the distance traveled and possibility of damage. I also have held my breath, hopeful of no damage when receiving model aircraft from China and Thailand.
Steve, your addition of the brighter LED lights is a good choice. It's nice to have the option of seeing the lights during daytime operation. Will add them on my 27%er. Thanks
Look forward to the pics of your builds.
Regards
Randy

RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna
Hi Glen,
Thanks for the photos of your modified mufflers. I have some good news to report regarding the DA150 and the stock Mufflers for this motor.
I have now fitted my DA150 to my Cessna and noticed there is very little modification required to the exhaust system.
All that is required is to have the exit pipes cut and re-welded so they sweep backwards to the rear of the cowling so they can exit via the Cowl Flaps on the underside of the cowling.
There is no modification required at the front of the exhausts. I have had no problem with clearance for the front of the mufflers in the cowling and there is more than ample room for them.
This I am happy about this as I feel by having them cut on the angle and welded will reduce the volume of the silencer and therefore increase the noise level of the motor. Noise may already be a problem with this motor when using the stock mufflers so I may even consider a second stage muffler that interconnects underneath the existing mufflers.
Also I'd like to tell you guys who are thinking of using the DA150, that the engine box does not have any right or down thrust built into it. It just bolts straight onto the firewall. I have made modification to my engine box to give me 2 degrees down and 2 degrees right thrust. This will help with the aircrafts tracking at low speeds/high power settings ie:take-off and landing. I can post some pics of how this was accomplished.
Till then Cheers,
Steve

Steve, what up...
Yes please, a photo or two and photos of your muffler.
I haven't started on mine yet, have turbines in front of it.
So much to do...
Thanks...

Hi DJ,
Here's some photo's to keep you updated with the modifications made to the engine box to get the recommended thrust lines of 2 degrees right and 2 degrees down.
As you can see in the photos the motor crankshaft and spinner backplate are central to the cowl opening. I have had to offset the motor in order to get this as to the down/side thrust.
I have made an aluminum spacer to fit between the motor backplate and the engine box as I needed just a little extra clearance for the propellor backplate.
I've now completed the Throttle, Choke and Steering servos. Just about done in the cowling area.
The mufflers will be modified next. I will post more once i have more to show.
Due to the hot weather here I haven't been able to work on the plane as much as I'd hoped to.
Cheers,
Steve

Where did you get the 2 degrees down and right from? As you know, I haven't started anything on mine yet, too many turbines to build, but still I'd like to know about the degrees.
You have a servo next to the throttle servo-what is that one for?
What brand spinner and size are you using? I'm going with the Tru Tru 5" spinner ONLY because they said they couldn't cut a 4" spinner for my Biela 29x12 3-blade prop. So now, i will have a half inch of spinner back plate extending outward the cowl. So again, what spinner brand and size are you using and what prop?
Was it difficult to make the degree back plate? Can you make another and mail to me-shouldn't cost more than 10 Euro-if you have a PayPal account, I can send you the funds.
I too will want the exhaust stacks cut and re-welded like Glenn did. Waitin to see your hookup in that area.
I still haven't bought my DA 150still considering the 170 since the bolt pattern is the same. And I was told by DA that the width from plug to plug is maybe 3 mm more.
Did you finish your lighting re-installation?
I wonder why Glenn hasn't produced a video by nowhum []
Thanks for the updates, Steve

RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna
Hi DJ,
Yeah I am using a Tru Turn 4" spinner (Ultimate Style) cut for the Biela 29x10 three blade propellor. It is strange that Tru Turn were not able to assist you with the 4" Spinner as that is where mine came from. I specifically requested DA150 bolt pattern on back plate and the cone to be cut for a biela 29x10.
The servo next to the throttle is the Choke servo. I am using Hitec HS-645MG Throttle and HS-625MG for choke. The rest of the aircraft I will be using HS-5998TG 18Kg servos operating @ 6volts.
For the engine box backplate I will be doing some Autocad drawings which I can send to any of you guys who are interested. This will show the templates of the engine box to enable modification of your existing box to give you the desired thrust line.
I am still working on the lights as I have been working on a few areas of the plane.
I will definately have more pics and some video to show.
Cheers,
Steve

Looking real nice Johnny,
I am looking forward to seeing the finished colour scheme.
I have ordered an Axel pilot from Axels Crazy Pilots in Germany for my Cessna.
I will get some photos on here for you guys when it arrives.
My Cessna is coming along slowly have had a few set backs with my exhaust setup. I'll get some photos once I'm happy with it.
Cheers,
Steve

Hello Johnny,
Wow that looks fantastic!!
I have some new photos of my Cessna which we were taken during engine testing two days ago.
DJ notice my exhaust setup. Its using stock DA compact mufflers and Convoluted tubing shaped to exit the cowl flaps at the bottom rear.
Today will be the maiden flight. I am pretty excited about it.
I will be taking my Trex 700 with me to calm my nerves as I find flying helis can help with concentration and to relax.
I also have some new video of my lighting its still not 100% complete as the xenon strobes are yet to be installed to the wingtips. All the other lighting in my system comprises of Red/Green Navigation wing tip lights, Rotating red Beacon (top of vertical fin), Clear tail cone light (setup to strobe), Luxeon Landing lights in wings and Xenon flashing silver strobes (Yet to be installed).
The video is located at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pX7LwOc5NMQ
Here are some photos from Saturday's engine testing.
Cheers,
Steve
