The amount of throw on the controls probably differs according to the type of plane and what it is designed to do. You may get more responses if you are more specific, for example, a Cub, a P-51, a CAP. There are lots of 1/4 scale planes out there.

Bob,
How did you like the build, pretty straight forward? I've been a little interested in this one for some time. What kind of incedence is setup on the wings and stab? I saw one hanging in a hobby shop many many years back, if I were to hazzard a guess, I'd start with about 3/4" ailerons, 2" or all I could get on the rudder, and about 3/4" to an 1" on the elevator. Then setup dual rates to tone it down some if necessary. Or maybe some expo for insurance (~40-50%). For an unknown (even some knowns) I just use the tar method based on past experience on the type. I dont remember if it had 4 ailerons, that would affect the roll rate also. How about a picture. Love seeing golden age planes.

Bob, my Dad and brother are currently putting one of these together and if you will send me a private email with your request to the email address below it will serve to remind me to check the plans next time I'm out at the shop.
Edwin, my Dad has been building airplanes for a lot of years and he says this is one of the toughest kits he's ever worked on. Apparently keeping things straight and true has been a real nightmare. Still, it's a very impressive looking framework and will be worth the effort when it's done.

I'm building one of these as well. I've also had my share of problems and I'm not a beginning builder.
I did make all new pywood wing joiners to fill out the spar boxes better. The wing construction is what gave me fits. The construction calls for making up hollow spars, adding the rib centers to the front and rear spars, then adding the rear and front rib sections. The fronts are added in a kind of "up in the air" fashion. I built one panel this way and found I ended up with a wavy leading edge. I built the balance of the panels on the building board with positive location for the front edges and rear edges of the ribs. I have to remove the rib fronts from the first panel and rebuild that panel.
I should have known better to think I could end up with a straight wing by building it in the air. The fuse has gone fine, and overall I am pleased with the plane. Mine will have a G38.
Bob, if you are going to recover you will see what the builder did with the spars. There are some threads here which recommend wrapping with kevlar. I wrapped the wing spars and spar center sections with layers of kevlar and carbon tow. I guess the spar boxes can split open otherwise. My rigging will be functional; I think it has to be to be safe. Others have re-engineered the wings with tube joiners.
I don't remember if the plans/instructions show control throws. I'll look as well when I get home.

That would match the comments I got about the one hanging in the hobby shop. Apparently the wing was not straight and the maiden went poorly. Didnt crash, just a handful and not fun to fly so it turned into a hanger queen. But still, it sure looks good. I dont mind a challange. Need to finish my current challanges, then get back on the build list, then figure out which to ......! Work sure gets in the way of building and flying.

Here are the throws:
Rudder 1 3/4" each way
Elevator 1 3/4" each way
Ailerons 1 1/2" up, 3/4" down
Balance 6 1/4 to 7 1/4" behind upper wing leading edge
All per plan, Jim

If you look at the Concept web site from the link at the 4th post here, you'll see my review of the 25% Fleet from 1989.
I am about to see if there have been any changes made in the last 19 years. Another Fleet kit is on the way and I'll be building it for another review in R/C REPORT Magazine.
I will be using a G-38 like I did back then, mostly for nose weight. SolarTex covering painted with "shake and shoot" paint.
I will, however, be using a more modern Spektrum 2.4 ghz radio system.
I loved that plane then and I'll love the new one just as much.

Mine uses about:
Rudder 2" each way. ( mucho rudder keeps me out of the pits.
)
Elevator 1 1/2" each way
Ailerons 1 1/2" up, 1" down. Aileron only on bottom wing, needs plenty of throw.
Both wings set at zero zero to thrust line. Err on the + side.
Since my G-38 uses a spring starter, both servos and battery packs are as far aft as possible. Actually under the Stab.
My Spektrum DX-7/AR-7000 combo has been a rock solid performer from it's first flight.
Happiness is flying a Fleet at 1/4 throttle.

Hey Bob
Did you build the Fleet or purchase prebuilt, I just finished building one. I will check out my plans and book for the spec's when I finish up my night works on Friday morning. I will do a repost with the spec's for you. I am not sure what happened toRoman, who produces the Fleet Concept Bipe. There site is no longer listed. I used an O.S. 5 Cylinder Radialfor power.

Hi, jb. I have a set of concept Fleet plans, they are not in good shape. I could try to have them copied and sent to you,- probably better than nothing! Here's a picture of my Concept Fleet 1/4 scale model 2.

See my profile pictures of my fleet with satio 5-cyl.
jjScott has it right about the wing design. Shot Elmers white glue into mine and now have a one piece top wing.
Very poor
Get all the aileron throw you can get.
Nice flying plane...but I don't want another one!

Geoardsog5,great looking bipe .Thank you much for the quick response. I would be happy to pay you for a copy and one for yourself if you would like. My Fleet is Solertex yellow and weighs in at 17.5 lbs. with the Supertiger 3000.It' the one that was offered on RCU. It's a bit rough but is a very doable winter project. My address is Jim Braithwaite, 8517 Foundry Run Dr. Fredericksburg Va. 22408 Thanks again JIM
