Dave Patrick Super Cub Availability

Hello guys

This might be of interested to some of you.......

I believe that the word has spread all around the world that the DPM PA-18 Super Cub ARF kits have delivery times far beyond what is regarded as standard. I guess, a very good thing just needs much more time. So far so good.

Since I am waiting for one of the Dave Patrick Super Cub ARFs myself, I have been frequently checking their website and clicking on the news update button in hope for good news. The last update is from June 8, 2006. It says that the company hopes to have new stock of the PA-18 by early Fall.
Since I figured that early Fall would arrive rather soon and I would like to get started with the project to have it ready for scale competition, I thought I'd give it a try and call them to get more precise information from first hand.

Now, here's our conversation:
Me: Hi, I would like to ask, if you have any news regarding the Super Cub.
DPM: No.
Me: So, do you still expect early Fall?
DPM: No, it will still be at least SEVERAL more months.
Me: Then your news update from June is not valid anymore?
DPM: That's correct.
Me: So, will you update your website accordingly?
DPM: We MIGHT, soon.

There are two reasons why I am writing all this:
One is to let you guys know of the delay expected for these kits.
The other is to share my frustration about such an arrogant reply as well as a company obviously trying to fool their customers!
No doubt: This model is an impressive new milestone in the ARF world and waiting for it, might be worth wile!
But even then, it's just not very noble to treat the people who feed you in this manner!
[:o]

Best regards to all and let's keep our fingers crossed that the Super Cubs will be available again, at all!

Matt

I'm not impressed with their service and from what I've read here on RCU, I doubt I will ever consider any of thier planes in the future. Sad, because their products are good, well, Very Good.

Wow. Some of these threads regarding DP Models has been a real eye-opener. Granted, some of them date back to 2003, so not able to determine if their service has improved or not. Here's the deal; I've been saving to buy a nice large scale plane, and I've narrowed my choices to the DP Super Cub or Hanger 9 Cessna Skylane 182. The cub looks fantastic and would love to have one. But being a penny poor flyer, I hesitate to have them charge my card only to not see anything for months!!?? The Cessna is a beautiful plane, it would arrive in a short time and Hanger 9 has great customer service. I'm curious what some of you would do. Go for the cub and bite the lower lip that it'll show up sometime within a year and have no problems, or go with a sure thing? Frankly, reading all the anti-DP post took a lot of wind off my wings..

My experience was similar to Matt's except they either didn't answer the phone or refused to return politely worded messages inquiring about this particular plane's availability. I'm not sure if it's less palatable being ignored or spoken rudely to, but if it's the same Dave Patrick that wrote the Aerobatics for Everyone book I'm not surprised - a more condescending author would be hard to find.

Anyhoo, I bought the H9 Cessna 182 and put an Evolution G26 on it. The guys at the field love it for the great scale looks and it's utterly cool doing slow, low passes with the sunset sky behind the plane. The flaps are effective but maybe not totally necessary - the plane seems to slow nicely. I added Ram nav lights and a Ram headlight set in the wing as a landing light, but I've had problems with these things actually working. Ralph at RAM seems to be cooperating with repairing them - we'll see...Robart makes a strut for it - very nice. Overall I'm pleased with it and I trust it'll get better as the motor loosens up,

I just got an email reply and order confirmation, no delivery date yet but at least there was a reply and order #. I have 3 on order, maybe there is hope but frankly I don't ever expect to see them.

I have a Dave Patrick clipped wing cub with the blue trim and an OS 1.60 twin with onboard glow for sale. It has about ten flights on it. It's in flawless condition and flies like a dream. The only reason I am selling it is I am moving over to jets and my wife won't let me sell her to finance the project so unfortunately I have to sell a plane. Thanks, Mike

I am looking for a clipped wing version of this cub. I have been ever since I saw the demo of it at Top Gun. Unfortunately I don't really want it with the engine, and ideally would like a unstarted kit, as shipping may be a problem on an assembled model.
Anybody out there with a boxed clipped wing one fro sale ( Any colour) please get in touch.... Here's hoping Regards Al

I have been trying since June to get a 1.8 Moki and finally gave up. I was only able to talk to someone once that whole time. They don't answer the phone and their answering machine is full. I don't know why anybody would buy anything from them under these circumstances.

Yeah,
I just don't understand what their problem is. They could easily place an update on the web. ALl it's takes is an explanation, very easy. I never saw such a operation as this, it's unbelievable. What a way to run a business, what a way to ruin your reputation.

It's really a shame, they have a great product. I have DP a super cub with a Saito 182TD in it that I have not flown yet. The quality is excellent. If it flys like the DP Ultimate it is great. Mine took almost a year to get but it really was worth it.

I wanted a DP Super Cub, too. Got it!! But not from Mr. Patrick and co. I went on-line to every club web-site, checked th' classified sections and found a man blessedly close to me who had one for sale. Thanks to my understanding and ever-so-patient wife, who drove, I went to his house and bought it. It filled the passenger side of the car and I had t' ride in th' back seat for over a hundred mi.
huggin' th' fuselage t' make sure it didn't shift durin' th' trip.
It didn't and looks beautiful sittin' in my garage.
Good luck to all who try t' deal w/ Dave Patrick models!
Regards,
RD2

What's the deal with, still no human contact, what is the problem. Just a simple web site update, but last is NOV 06, very poor business. I have 3 on order just for giggles, I'll never see them.

RE: Dave Patrick Super Cub Availability

He has, in effect, gone out of business. I do hope he didn't get away with any of your $$. I actually talked with someone named Sandy by phone when I canceled my order. Was told he had "no idea" when I could expect delivery on my plane, so I told him to canx. th' order. He said he would and e-mailed me a confirmation to that efect. So I KNOW they're at least alive, and now and then in the office. I doubt very seriously you'll ever see your planes.
But that's 3 less reasons f' y' wife t' leave. :-)

At one time their planes were the hot ticket. They kept putting off customers and not coming out with the new planes they said (eg: 50cc Ultimate). I tried for almost a year to get their 120 Ultimate but by the time they finally got some in, I had bought something else. It's a shame.

I own a DPM Clipped Wing Cub and some of you may have read my thread of the poor quality and disgraceful service. All I have say is "Dave Patrick is a joke!"[>:] "Give it up old man."

You must've gotten yours after things went t' hell f' poor ol' Bro. Dave. Mine's great! But then I bought it from an individual who flew it a little before sellin' it t' me. I went around and around w/ DPM tryin' t' get one. "Never mind, Dave".

So sorry to hear DPM may be out of business. Should have guessed something was wrong. I ordered replacement wing and horizontal stabilizer aluminum tubes last December and they shipped a 1/2 in for the stab. My Edge 540T uses 3/8 inch. I left several phone messages during January and February with no return phone calls. Finally talked to a lady that answered the phone and was told to send the tube back. No apology. It has been over a month and still no stab tube and they are not answering the phone again. I'v paid for the tube once and shipping twice and still have no tube. Wonder if they will be at Toledo? Just notice David Patrick is now doing a column in Model Avaition so he ain't dead.

Why does Dave not close his web site or at least update us potential customer's. with whats going on. Maybe we should contact Model Aviation and have him answer it in his column. Or just maybe he should answer it here. We have all been waiting to long for planes.
