Default convert electric to glow

Lots of glow planes are converted to electric. But with so many new small electric planes has anyone converted them to glow? For example what about the flatout type planes made of foam can they be beefed up around the engine and flown with .049 engines?

Dude ... a few have converted EP planes to glow, for me I think its nuts because the EP planes are built so light and the vibration and oil residue will not do it well. But again, as long as the hobbyist is happy, who cares!

As for modifying small EP planes to 049 I for one will say its not worth it. The electric motor will give you a light set up and more power. Maybe you should try it out and let us know. Would be really keen to see how it works out. Smallest EP to glow conversion I have seen is with a GWS E Starter that had a 10/15 sized motor on her.

In addition to the vibration, remember that fuel dissolves foam. When you land your plane might be considerably smaller or completely dissolved if you run a nitro motor on a flatout

Nitro fuel does not dissolve foam.

This type question would probably be best submitted to the ½A Forum. They discuss .049 size glow planes there, and this topic has actually been addressed. A search of that forum will show several threads.

Good luck,

I had a Chinese three channel electric plane. It was called a Wing Dragon. The battery got to the point where it would no longer hold a charge.

I mounted a .061 Wasp on it. I had to put the engine on front of the wing, but it worked out pretty well. It did make the plane awefull slimy though.
