W8ye has it nailed, it`s really that simple.
All of mine Sanye 4 bangers ( .30 .61 .91 .180) are timed exactly as his picture shows and they surely doesn`t lack in performance.

Hi!
Campgems your'e right about the 1/2 reduction in cam traveling compared to the crank!
In fact all we are all right about the how the cam should be mounted!
When placing the cam in you have to be aware of the spiral gear and place the cam so that it sits at 6 o'clock when fully seated...that means you have to begin putting it in at about 5 o'clock.
Just checked my NIB OS FS .40 and FS .91. Both have the cam dot at six o'clock with the T-mark pointing at the forge mark on the housing....and have the dot pointing at about eleven o'clock when the crank is turned one full turn.
So w8ye and I are both right!
But it's much easier to see how the dot is placed having the cam dot at six o'clock.
The cam lobe covers the dot at eleven o'clock.

If all else fails, get a book on the subject. Here is what I would call an excellent source of info on OS engines.
If you look at the picture of the timing marks it says to set at the 6 0'clock position. HOWEVER, you will also notice that the mark and the center of the camshaft align with the pushrods. When the engine is positioned as it would be in a mount with the crankshaft horizontal, The marks don't align in the 6 o'clock position. The pushrods are canted backwards a few degrees. It's all a matter of symantics. Ignore the statements about clock positions and align the mark, center of camshaft, and pushrods and the timing will be right on.
I've been timing OS and the clones this way for years and it is perfect.
