Dambo, You are wise to run the engine first on a test stand. You will learn much doing this. Please read your manual carefully! Now about mounting... Do not use standoffs because you will be standoffing with standoffs! I know sounds silly but it is not recommended due to torsional effect. Look at how I did my corsair. My mount starts with 1/4 ply shaped like the engine mount base with cherry standoffs that are the same shape as the mount and ply base. Now you will need to use the outer holes on the bottom of the mount but the INNER hole on the top of the mount and the bolt will need to be reversed with the socket head from the back of the firewall forward. That way you will not need to make massive modifications to your firewall! Check out my pictures of my corsair earlier in the thread. Don't those BH corsairs fly ridiculously great!? -Tom

I recieved my EVO 9 cylinder about 3 weeks ago and have pulled it out of the boxevery fewdays...just look at it! Great looking engine, but more importantly itwill makethe1/4.5 scaleFW 190, I am building,sing :-)
Should have things ready for some breaking-in on an engine stand before too long. Really looking forward to that.

Is there a conventional wisdom with regards to the use of an exhaust ring on a glow radial vs. running exhaust pipes individually from each cylinder to its respective scale exit?

Well Mitch a collector ring will be cleaner and sound deeper. That plane will be outrageously cool! Lars, here is a photo of the 160. I call it the 10 10 10 engine! (+- 10%). 10 cu in., 10 or so Hp, 10 out of 10 in running qualities, 11 pounds with ring and 11 inches in diameter and insanely low vibration.

Congrats Lars! You will find the engine will sound better and deeper too. Cleanup will be easier. Hey that grey color matches your plane! Will it go back on the Stearman? Lars, what propellor is that? -Tom

Yes the engine is back in PT17.
propellor is from Graupner 18x8 G-Sonic.
it is as good as APC but half the price

Lars, What I liked about that propellor was, unlike the APC it matches the drive washer diameter and looks much better. -Tom

I received my Evo 7-35 a couple of weeks ago and it is a beautiful engine, i am glad i bought it!

I was positively surprised that the glow harness was top quality and ready to use, made in a ring pattern ,very clever! Also there is a spring choke on it ,like on the ASP 400. Very useful. And mine will be cowled in my Pitts 12 Python from Peakmodel.
Even the the throttle was made with a special linkage system.

I have test run it ,and the overall quality of the engine is top!

Now i will solder a copper exhaust system for it to fit in the Python.

Nils, That wiring harness ring idea came from me! Horizon liked and used it. Pitts pythons fly really well so that would be a great combination. Those 7-35's should soon become a top seller with their low fuel consuption and smaller plane sizes. They look good just sitting there. Mine is so easy to start too. Send photo's.....Tom

Has anyone ever taked to someone at Horizon Hobbies about a warranty issue?

After looking over my EVO777 I had notice that one of the exhaust tubes has a different radius than the others.

It looks like it may have been an intake tube used as an exhaust.

I sent a picture to HH but the only answer i got was to call back earlier in the day to talk to an engine person.

Hi,

I just got the Evo 735 to put on my Staggerwing. I notice that the oil content can be quite low for this engine. Was 10% with the ester based oils that are more common in Europe or the PAG oil that is more common in the US? Would it be OK to get some Cool Power 10% Nitro ( I think it has around 20% PAG oil ) and mix it 50/50 with Methanol to get 5% Nitro and @ 10% oil?

Yes that would work perfectly! Its what I did, Just dilute a good brand of glow fuel with high quality methanol. I do not know about the different oils you mentioned. Perhaps Pete could answer your question in the oil type differences. -Tom

Ester based oils are synthetic oils and the recommended Evolution Oil is of this type. PAG oil's are generally mineral based oils and will work well also. Your solution for fuel is spot on (Cool Power tends to be about 18% oil which will give you a 9% mix when combined with the straight methanol).

BTW - The installation looks great on that airplane!

Picked up a gallon of the Cool Power w/ 10% nitro and 17% syn oil... Didn't have time to get the methanol today, but "hiperfuels" here in the Houston area sells it in manageable quantities. The fuel color is much more green than in the picture and it recommends NOT to add any after-run oil as it contains it...that's a time saver.
I will try to get a video of the break-in of the radial and post it. I still need to order my 25" Solo Prop for the FW 190 A version. Going to get an off the shelf propto use during initial break-in until the big boy arrives.
