Evolution Engines

I bought an X-tra Easy 2 for our club trainer...It's got the JR radio in it too...Good airplane, and the engine is the same one as in the Alpha (.455) I ditched the 3 blade prop right away, and put an 11x6 MAS on it, because they're a little more resistant to ground strikes. I also removed the needle limiters, because we flight instructors know how to adjust an engine (we don't need no steenking limiters) I would suggest a more secure way of joining the wing halves tho (I epoxied them together w/ 30 minute) and the main alum. landing gear is quite soft, so it bends easily (not necessarily a bad thing when learning to land tho) There's a few other things I could tell you, are you considering buying one?

I bought the 46NT for a relatively cheap combat spad engine, since it'll get buried and/or mid-aired a few times I didn't want to spring for another 46FX.
Thanks!

the evo motors arnt a real power house but they are a veary reliable engin they have more power than an la moter but less than an fp but they are as reliable as an la and you dont have to break them in the bigist thing is to take the three blade prop off and use an apc

I have an evolution engine also a trainer 46 on a PT 40 the engine wouldn't run right until I put a K&B idle bar glow plug and it likes 15% nitro and I took the three bladed prop off too. I use a 10-6 and I find that the engine likes to run slightly rich then it'll idle all day and do anything you want but for the money I wouldn'd trade my MDS 48 for anything it has twice the power I use it on a LT40 with floats and it's the most reliable motor I have the plane weighs 8 pounds and it flies great.

I'm looking at the specs right now and...The .455 Alpha engine has a .867" Bore w/ a .770" Stroke...The .46NT has a .864" Bore and a .797" Stroke...So, they are very close but not the same engine. Now exactly why they'd make 2 engines so close in measurements is hard to fathom, but maybe the .46 is a "tweaked" refinement of the .455? Who knows??? I swapped the .455 from the trainer w/ a .46LA I had in a Cermark Bobcat, and the Alpha engine has a 500 R.P.M. edge on the LA w/ the same prop and fuel. (11x6MAS and 10% Powermaster)

I just read all of the great info on the Evolution engine...and maybe you can help me...I have a new one in the box and there is no size written anywhere that I can find....It does have the Alpha "a" on the top side of the engine and I have been told that is the alpha model which is a .45 something....I guessing that the earlier models were called alpha's if they were the larger of the two sizes available at that time( I understand that there was also a .40 something )... Is that correct and what size is mine? Thanks for your help...Richard

I think that's called the Alpha because it's the first one and it sounds cool. It should be .455 in size, see proptop's post above.
I flew my .46NT 3 times last weekend on a Magic Extra. I used a TF 10-6 and 15% Cool Power. I didn't tach it. The needles were off. Both needles were too lean. I have reached the limiter on the high side needle. That's easy to get around though. Not as powerful as the 46FX but, close. The more I ran it the better it got. I didn't play with prop sizes or anything else. I'll let you know more after this weekend.

The Alpha engine runs fine and we are using it for training new r/c flyers....I know most of you have gone away from the three bladed prop but we are staying with it for now....Will buy your old three blade evolution prop for $1.00 each and can use 4 or 5...if you are not using them...Any suggestions on the advantages of the three blade verus the two blade 11 X 6? Thanks

I have three Evolution NT's, A .40 , a .46 , And a .61. All three run great. The guys in the club are really impressed with them. The only problem I have had is getting them to shut off. The will idle incredibly slowly!! So I guess thats not a big deal to worry about!!
