Default Need help with info on this Super Tigre engine

I need help with some specific information on the Super Tigre engine in the photos. On the exhaust side of the cylinder it says "Series X G.60". On the other side it says "Made in Italy by Super Tigre". It has a crankcase vent but it is plugged and not being used in the old Aeromaster Biplane in which it is mounted. I can recall years ago that it hauled that old "heavy" Aeromaster around the sky with quite a lot of authority. I would like to get some idea as to the vintage of the engine and whether it is anything special as Super Tigre engines of that vintage go. I have looked on-line but all of the similar looking "Super Tiger .60 Bluehead" engines I could find had a large, rather conspicuous bypass port running up the side of the cylinder. This one has nothing of the sort. Since this one has a bolt-on front end, I would like to get it running, rotate the front end 90 degrees so it will run in "reverse" and use it in a pusher aircraft. Any information you guys can give will be greatly appreciated.

You have a 70's-80's SuperTigre side-exhaust X-60 engine. It was of the first series of Schneurle-ported engines by SuperTigre. It could turn higher RPM than the G-60 engine, and was loved by Pattern flyers of the time.

My appologies for the multiple posts. I was trying to get it in the correct forum but wasn't sure which one it needed to be in.
I have read warnings about turning the needles in to far as the seats are kind of delicate. I really want to disassemble it and clean it up but I want to get some baseline needle valve settings before I do. How careful should I be when I turn the needle in to count the turns? It is sometimes kind of hard to determine when the needle is bottomed out on a gummed-up carb.

Yes the X 60 is a completely differant engine than the G 60.  They did try to clone the looks of the G 60 though.  I think the internals of the Tower 60 is a clone of this engine, but with OS type carb and its own styling.

Start out with the high-speed needle at about 4 turns out from (gently) closed.

There are no baseline needle settings when non pump equipped carbs are used, whether internal to the carb or external to the carb.

By the time you have matstered juggling the tank height/size/fuel line length around, you would have little use for information regarding baseline needle settings.

Let's look at it this way, you cannot have a dangerously rich needle setting IF you check for hydraulic lock-up before turning over your engine. Just make it a habit to check for hydro-lock before flippiing (turning over) your engine and you will never have to worry about your needle settings being dangerously rich. Then all we will have to do is to make sure that the needle setting is not dangerously lean, and we all know the answer for that - make it rich!

Chances are good that the nipple added to the crankcase was put there to provide impulse power for an external fuel pump, such as a Perry or Robart pump. Both were popular when that engine was popular.

I love all of my Super Tigres and especially the Bluehead series. I don't, however, have one of the X-Series blueheads Maybe I'll begin looking around for one, now that you've brought up the subject.
