Just bought an AP engines .061 wasp engine from Tower. Looks like a nice engine. But have no idea how to get the glow plug to glow...reliably, a regular adapter does not stay on so that has to be held on while trying to start the engine and hold the plane. A cox adapter does not go on correctly and stay either. ANYONE please help... Had I known his would be such a pain I guess I would have bought something else.
On a side note..... When I can get the engine going it sure is nice. Powerful smooth and surprisingly quiet!
HHMM any suggestions / Thanks!

From: gone,
Go to Radio Shack. Get a pair of insulated aligator clips. Clip one to the top of the glow plug and the other to any convenient place on the engine.
I used to start all of my engines this way. Works really well when usig a power panel. A bit annoying compared to a little glow ignitor. (I hate stringing wires which can get in the prop...)

Or, if you don't mind a little extra weight, DuBro makes a remote glow plug adapter that grounds to an engine mount bolt, and has the other terminal attached to the glow plug with a small spring clip.

I do not have an AP .061 but I believe it is a copy of the Norvel .061. If so, you can use a Norvel or Cox glow head, or any other glow or diesel adapters made for the Cox .049s.
Most of us old far** grew up using alligator clips and doorbell dry cells. The clips DO work.

Thank you all for your help.!!! I think I may try the norvel adapter mainly because the aligator clips caused an issue.. not sure how but the prop wanted to eat them so will try to keep the wires to a min. Thanks again for the suggestions!!!!!

For some reason... any plug clip with wires, the wires WANT to get in the prop. You have to place the battery behind the wing, and back far enough that the wires don't have the room to let the plug clip rotate forward due to engine vibration.
This is one reason GAVE AWAY my power panel... with the starter plugged in, and the glow driver in use... I had to have one set of wire rnning around in front of the prop. That's asking for a wire to get in the prop. I feel that having to actually hold a NiCd glow ignitor on top of the engine is safer than running wires near the prop...
