Just ended up getting one of these in a trade. It is a nice looking engine, has great compression,I haven't run the engine yet, but I plan to tonight. I have been in this hobby for 33 years but have never seen or heard of CS engines before. Has anyone had any experience with them?
Thanks

I've had two of them. Typical chinese clone. Seems to run best on 5% nitro of less with some added castor oil. I ran them for several years with no problems. Have real chrome bore, true ABC. "great compression' you noted is due in part to the high compression ratio they have. A lot like ASP engines

Just remember that for years the CS line was known as Chinese S**T because of their shoddy fits and complete lack of quality control. The plant seems to be finally getting some sense and probably better machinists and seems to be trying to get something out that is a quality product. But I'd still be leery of them for awhile.

CS made some .40 and .46 glow two stroke engines that look a lot like the early equivalent ASP/SC/Chinese Magnum XL engines, but were a different case.
Ed Carlson sold them in the United States.
They are made well, run well, and last; unlike some of the other CS offerings. The usual caveat concerning Chinese R/C carbs applies however.

My buddy Bruce Fischer of brucercengines.com has a .46 but that is the limit of my experience with them. He seems to like them .

I have a cs 46 on my kids trainer and other than the carb that I had to replace with an old k&b carb to get it to run right, it purs along quite well. I am using a 12x4 wood prop on it. The only grip I have about it is that it does not seem to want to flip start. I almost always have to use the starter cold or hot. Other than these two things it is a great engine.

CS Engines are usually OK, but it is possible to get a poorly fitted one though. Usually the engine itself is OK, it is whether the carburetor works OK for you or not. If the carb is not good, then you need to either know enough to figure out a way to fix it or replace it with a better one.
But otherwise the engines usually run pretty good and make good power.
