A thought....

I have just taken apart my ASP 46's muffler to find that it is basically empty.
I have had the idea that: Coud you put something in there on the central bolt, like a small metal blade or turbo sort thing that would make a really cool sound?
I do not have the means to test this out, so I just thought I would put it out there as something to try.
And if I put a hose from a small tank of propane/butane to the inside of the muffler, and then out the exhaust outlet, and ignite it while the engine is running, would the muffler outlet make a cool flame?
Just a few of my funny ideas I think up when I have nothing to do....

Other manufacturers make a washer or a fan type disc that goes between where the halves meet. This is only to make it quiter, definitely not faster. I normally take them out or drill them bigger for more power. If you want to experiment, you can make a disc out of the aluminum pie plate material and sandwich it between the two or three halves to see what it does. Remember the backpressure will change depending where the pressure fitting is located, and will change your needle settings. The propane butane thing, I will not comment on without a lawyer. I was looking at a whistle on my workbench one day, and it really looked like a muffler. I was thinking of bending up one out of aluminum sheet to try some ideas out. Then thought maybe it would be louder, and might be fun to try. I don't think it was worth the effort, but as you say, it is a thought.

My Feedback: (3)
The regulator for a butane can would probably be heavy, not to mention how dangerous that would be if your engine quit on you out over some trees or a distant field. You would need an ignitor source too. The weight penalties keep going up as one thinks about it. The fire risk is enough to make this a bad idea, don't you think?

this is funny, just the other day i was thinking about those old whistles we had when I was a kid, they are about 3/4" in diameter and they have a fan inside, they sound like an engine revving, other whistles like them sound like an old cop cars,, I was wondering where I can buy one and if a plane would go fast enough to make them work
I will try to find them on-line

here you go, LOL you can find anything on the Net
the one I had sounded more like this one,, but I don't think they would last that long on a plane, LOL so you buy more than 1

they are small, lightweight, and you can control the ignition.

Pretty slick on takeoff. In the air, not really as cool. A Dynajet would be better. Maybe a whistle behind the muffler outlet. The butane flame is blue and hard to see, but does sound good over the electric ducted fan.
