Evolution 46 problems

Default Evolution 46 problems

My Evolution 46 screams when it's on the horizontal but as soon as it goes vertical it dies.
If the motor is wide open when it goes Vertical it will continue to run but as soon as you slow it down and try to give it full throttle it dies
I have tried to adjust it all the way in and all the way out and there is no happy medium.

I have this motor on a break in stand that I can tilt vertical. Also I have about 18" of fuel hose on it, just because I didn't want to cut it up for future use. Can this be a problem???

Anyone have any ideas.

I had the same engine (until the crank snapped around flight 100 in mid air) and shortening the fuel line would be the fist place I would start. Also if you want more power drilling or removing the baffle inside the muffler will help the muffler is very restrictive. I believe your engine is having trouble sucking fuel through all that line you have hooked up to it while vertical.

why do you have so much fuel line?
tank should be fairly close to the engine and also it needs to be centered to the carb.
also try pinching fuel line and see if it slows or speeds up before dying.
If you have to have that much line... you may need a pump

18" of fuel line is indeed a problem. You should try to keep it at 6" or less, or else use a pump. I'm surprised it runs reliably at all, 18", wow!

i had one of theses engines. and it done the same thing . i ran it rich lean. it didnt matter same thing after 10 fights or so and a new glow plug it quit .it does good now to the last drop of fuel

Thanks Guys for the Help.

I was using that much fuel line because I didn't want to cut it up for future use. This motor was on a break in stand , so I just used what I had.
I was thinking that the length of fuel line might have had something to do with it as I was asking for help.

I have since re installed it back in my plane and ran it up with out any problems.

I tried different plugs, i checked for leaks and nothing, same thing. i changed to different tank (same thing).i took it off the plane and mounted it to a stand and no matter what i tried it still done the same thing at high speeds, would go in and out from slow to wide open but never would really let loose of all it had, i gave up i took it off the stand and put it aside and now am running a dependable O.S. 46 LA. at least i can fly now!

I have a Webra Speed 40 that did the same thing. It would idle all day and run fine on the ground. But as soon as you took off and was at the point of no return it would quit. I had the needle valve opened to the point at which it was just hanging in there do to pressure from the adjustment tab and it would still die on me.
Obviously this wasn't right so I took the intake needle valve apart and it all looked good, you could see light through everything and get air through the places you couldn't see.

Come to find out I had a piece of paper towel that I had used to clean my plane, that had became stuck in the intake nipple and everytime the fuel hit it, it would swell and close down on the fuel. I found this piece by sticking the back end of a sewing needle in every opening.

I use a 60cc syringe to fuel my plane. I had laid the syringe on the piece of towel and the wet end gouged a piece out and unknowingly I injected it into my fuel tank.
