MVVS engine opinions???

Hey,
Anyone have some real, practical opinions about the MVVS engines? I am not looking for hate mail but rather actual performance information. They appear to have great materials, excellent ABC chrome plating and decent assembly/fits.
I am thinking of just picking up some different things for the fun of it. I have had enough OS engines to choke a herd of horses so that isn't in my scope here, I am looking for something different and less well known.

I agree, also - MVVS engines are good! However, I'm not so sure about the 'super quiet' silencers, the silver painted ones that are made in two pieces and then riveted together. I find they sometimes 'blow' and have to be replaced. Has anyone else found this - or is it just me?

A riveted silencer coming apart is not a typical MVVS problem... Rossi's for instance had the exact same problem in the past...
In short, ALL riveted mufflers are a potential problem. Stay away from them!
What surpises me is that a company producing engines in the 21st century still uses 19th century technology for their mufflers...
Probably because it is so damn cheap... 
But the engines... I just started using them last year... I've got 4 of them now, and a fifth on the way... So you can say I am really satisfied with them.
About the price... they aren't getting expensive... but these engines come from Europe, and the dollar is really low these days... so what you are paying is exchange rates...

I have a MVVS .77 and a .49. Have ran the .49 in a Balsa Nova using the optional mini tuned pipe. Pulled the model around really well withgreat vertical using a 12x4 or 12.25x3.75 APC's. The .77 is installed in a TF Corsair. More then adequate power. Using a bisson Pitts muffler and installed two head shims for the 10% nitro that I run in my other two strokes.
Good quality engines. There Quicky .40 has a good reputation on the race curcuit.

I have a MVVS 0,49 / 8ccm/ and 1,6 G Walbro /26 ccm/ and I am satisfied. I have factory 200 km from my house.
I had small problem with silent muffler for 0,49

I have the .49, .61 (with glow and diesel head) and a new 1.60 (Ignition & Walbro Carb).
The .49 is great. Blew my OS .46 FX into the weeds. The .61 is also a powerful sport engine for it's size. It hated the "super quiet" silencer though, and much prefers the less restrcitive standard silencer. I imagine - very amenable to a pipe.
Happy to run on nil nitro too.
The mounting bolts for the silencer tap into the exhaust manifold and like a little thread lock and spring washers to stop them coming loose. The silencers are also a little agricultural, but overall they are top performing good quality motors for the money.
Much more interesting, and much greater appeal than the Chinese made sport motors from my point of view. Overall, they rock.

The Mvvs engines have excellent top end and idle very well. However of the six engines in my club none of them transition very well at all. Morris hobbies has been pushing these engines for their hovering and transition qualities which ironically is the one place these engines do not perform well. My 75.00 thundertiger .46 has far better transition and will out hover a MVVS .49 all day long. One member of our club just bought a .77 and tuned pipe for a Ohio Models YAK profile. After screwing with it for two weeks he gave up on it. He offered it to other club members for 100.00 bucks and got no takers. Another member has a .65 that will idle great and really screams at top end, but practically dies on transition. It was sent back to morris hobbies and they supposedly did all kinds off work on it, and it still runs the same. These are great all out racing engines but do not buy one for hovering type fun fly planes.

For the transition problem try a check valve in the muffler line one of my 4 strks had the problem and it fixed it it may have been tank placement but the valve worked

It turns a 14x4 W @ 11200 rpms peak and ca 10800-11000rpms in flight .
It runs with 15% synthetic oil and no nitro , very reliable . I use it on my Diablotin .
Don't use Mvvs-muffler ,they chokes the engine down and it won't be reliable.
My 77 Mvvs runs very reliable at all rpms .

I have several MVVS engines. .45 to 1.2. I found them to be very reliable with good power output. I had trouble with the 1.2 carb and eventually replaced it with an O.S. and solved the problem. I had one 77 muffler come apart (weld joint) in mid air

I have been running and servicing MVVS engines for more than 10 years now and what I have noticed over the years is that MVVS engines are very durable.
In the last two years MVVS have improved their quality drastically with their new CNC machines which has rendered in better carbs and more powerful engines.
Some of the MVVS line of engines (6,5cc) are perhaps not as powerful as other engines (read webra .40 GT). The 6,5cc GFS/R engine for instance is not as powerful (at least with the standard and super silent muffler) compared to a Webra GT .40 but with the new updated standard carb (7mm, 8mm or 9mm intake) it certainly performs very good having now (really) instant throttle response and super reliable idle. But it lacks in rpm compared with the Webra .40 GT witch is the most powerful "standard" engine on the market. -We use this engine in Q-500 pylon racing in Sweden.
The Webra .40 GT turns a 10x6 Graupner prop at 14000 rpm or more on the ground using 80/20 fuel (FAI) and the latest MVVS 6,5cc do 13600-13800rpm with the same prop.
Small difference maybe but noticeable in flight.
What is good is that the MVVS carbs have been improved and is now one of the best on the market rivaling OS.
This was not the case with the earlier carbs with their blunt idle needle..these were rather inexact to say the least.
I think the super silent muffler is good, it's very quiet even quieter than a fourstroke if you put on a the right prop that is (11x6 APC on a MVVS 6,5cc GFS/R).
This silencer is not riveted together ...it's bolted together...which is much better.
There is however some minor faults with the smaller MVVS engines (3,5-8,0cc) and that is the bolts used to secure the silencers! These bolts are to small in size (M 2,5 and M3 )and they are also too short.
I hope MVVS will change them in the future.
