Default MVVS .49 in a pattern ship ?

Does anybody has experience with an MVVS .49 in a 40 size pattern ship ?
Is it a real powerful engine ?
Is it reliable ? die hard ?
Will a tuned pipe increase RPM too much ?
Thank you,

Mvvs 49 is a great engine . you will not be disappointed. Also reckon you use a tuned minipipe to get increase in rpms (~14000 ). As time goes by the engine will run stronger and stronger. Use max nitro at 5% to preserve your engine life.

i am currently using a mvvs40 , 3% nitro , standard silencer on trainer . no deadsticks in 100 flights so far.

now i am breaking in another mvvs45.

a friend is using mvvs 49 in piper cub. using no nitro fuel , quiet silencer, 11*7 prop getting 12500-13000 rpm. flies at half throttle.
another using the same in a seaplane with excellent pulling capabilities.

Hi Bobi

Thank you for your help.
Actually which is the oil percentage your are using ?
Do you have any idea of comparison between the MVVS 49 and the YS 45 ?

Default MVVS .49

I have 2 MVVS engines. I have had my .40 for about 6 months. It keeps getting better. It will turn an APC 11x4 at 12,400 and a 10x5 at about 14,000. I am using the MVVS mini tuned pipe.

My .49 is brand new. I have run about 2 tanks through iton the test stand. It is looking very promising. It will turn the APC 11x4 at 14,500. It also has the mini tuned pipe.

Both engines are run on FAI fuel. 0% nitro,20%castor, 80%methenol.

I just installed the .49 in my Balsa Nova. I can't wait to fly it.

Default MVVS .49 in a pattern ship ?

Hello!
Im the Swedish importer of MVVS engines since
the last 10 years.
All modell engines and certainly all MVVS engines runs best on all syntetic oil.
Here in Europe 15% oil is what most of us use....yes you read right ...just 15% oil....some even use as little as 6-10% oil.
The oil most used is an oil from Graupner ( Big hobby product producer) called Aerosynt II and Aerosave. But also the French manufacturer MOTUL makes an oil for glowengines called "Micro"
which I myself recommends. Motul also makes oil for bikes and cars.
Forget about castor oil.....!! The modern syntetics work much better ...and give no carbonbuild up!
As I am and old ( 48) pylonracing guy I was using only castor oil (20%) in my racingengines but some years ago I saw what a difference the syntetics oil did to our engines and have since then converted ....at least when I fly my sport engines and not my racing engines (the rules in international pylonracing does not allow any other oil than 20% castor oil).

You will be suprised what a diffrence 15% Motul "Micro" oil or the other syntetic oils will make to any glow engine......
Try it and you will never return to 20% castor oil again!!

Regards!

Default MVVS .49 in a pattern ship ?

Hi JAKA

Thank you very much for your help.
I'm still waiting for my MVVS .49 to come to Brazil. I do not have a bit of experience with it, so I'm afraid about the engine thrust... would you know if it have enough power to perform "top" acrobatics in a 2,5 Kg (2.5 kg)pattern ship ?

Thank You again,

Ricardo Aurelio

Hello!
It all depends what you mean by "top aerobatics"
The MVVS .49 with the No. 4248 minipipe (Long minipipe) and using a 11x6 APC propeller, at sealevel, using 5% nitro and 15% syntetic oil ( Motul "Mikro") will give good performance....not hovering capabilities but good solid aerobatic performance providing the aircraft is built straight.
The weight you mentioned ( 2,5kg)is rather high though, so do not expect racing performance.

Hi Jan

You were very clear. Thank you very much for your answer.
I guess I'd rather install the MVVS .49 in a fun-fly and buy a YS 63 or a Saito 72 for my pattern Stream 50 from Hirobo.

Thank you again,

Ricardo
