Is it possible to clean up glow plug threads in a cylinder. If so what size tap will I require? I have a Satio 65 with possible stripped threads. When I installed the glow plug it was very hard going in. The engine had not been run for awhile, the plug is tight now and the engine is runable, but I want to be ready when the plug burns out.

You can get a tap from Micro Fasteners - it is a 1/4x32 listing for $2.90 - they also have a great selection of other goodies you will be able to use.

CAUTION: if you use the tap with the head on the engine, you run the risk of getting metal particles inside the engine. When you then run it, you may do lots of damage. The safest way is to remove the head from the block; if you do not remove the head then really REALLY really flush it out good before firing up the engine.

Thanks everybody for the useful information. Like I said I ain't doing nothing til the glow plug burn out. I was also advised to put grease around the glow plug hole to pick up most of the tread shaving when doing the job.

I'd say remove the jug... it's only 4 screws, and you'll be 100% sure no chips end up ruining your engine... If something was left in the cilinder there's a good chance you would have to go shopping for a new cilinder after all...
