I dont know how new these engines are, but just saw them on the listings. Like most Chinese made, they are inexpensive and the listed performance is decent. Any body have experience with these? How about an .80, brand new, for under $90. including shipping.

I have a couple of the SK-50 and find them a bargain of an engine. Never had any issues with them. Easy starting and good running. Idle is perfect. Not the greatest in power, but no sloutch either. Cant beat them for $50.

I think they are brought in by Kange USA (also tiger shark by them) overseas ASP label they are both excellent values (see my 91Tiger shark post diesel site) I have a 56 TS ringed version on the way. I do not think they would bring in problem engines

Regardless of the area they come from I guess CNC machining makes everything pretty even in quality I would question bearing
life but they go on Saito and OS too again that may be user induced also lack of after run oil . storage, etc

The only issue I have with them is they are "pre-spun". Which I believe means they are oiled up and spun on a machine for easy break in before you get them. I would prefer to break them in myself.

I received my SK .50 earlier this week and started to break it in yesterday. The engine was very tight, maybe one of the tightest I've ever had to break in and other first impressions was that the casting itself was a little under the quality that I am used to seeing. It started right up on the first try and seemed to run strong until the throttle barrel locked up. I would move the throttle linkage back and forth between full throttle and idle and the throttle would hit a certain spot and "lock" up. I couldn't finish breaking in the engine. I came home and removed the throttle barrel ( a blow up view in the instructions would be nice) and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I took the set screw that aligns with the groove in the barrel and I broke (filed) the sharp edges at the corners that ride in the groove. This seems to help but it still feels like it's grabbing. I couldn't think of anything else to do so I mounted the engine back on the plane and will continue trying to break it in tomorrow. There are instructions that come with the engine that give thorough and precise directions for breaking the engine in and what size props to use but none showing or telling how to mount the remote needle valve that also came with the engine. (if anyone wants to explain to me how to set this up for this engine I would appreciate it, it's different than the 4 or 5 others I've done, I think I'm missing a piece or two.) I also damaged the carburetor body when I tightened it down with the side adjusting screw, it became indented pretty bad where the threaded rod pivots to "lock" it. I didn't tighten that hard either. I was going to wait until I actually got the engine completely broke in and the plane flying before I posted a little review but I saw this post and thought I would quip in. As of right now I am glad I didn't pay any more than 50 bucks for this engine and if the throttle problem isn't straightened out I will be sending it back to SK.

I have on of the .50s and I love it I have about a 1/2 gallon through it now and the only thing I had to do was to fix air leak around the carb. I have it on my FunAir and it turns a APC 12x3.75 at 12500 rpm .

I wanted to post an update to my SK engine. I called SK and they sent me a new carb. This carb had some "sticking" throttle barrel problems but not as severe as the original. I took the carb apart, re-assembled it and worked the throttle open and close maybe a hundred times and the carb barrel started working free and easy. I installed the carb back on the engine and the engine has been running very good every since. Real easy starting, good response and like I said finally no sticking through the throttle range. The engine seems to have very good power.

I have begun to break in my SK.80 ringed too, very easy start,a lot of power(pulls dangerously with a 13*7 prop).I dont have any throttle problem.Very easy starting really impressing.
