Default Another Way to Solve the Backpressure Issue!

Hey guys,

I was discussing with my LHS owner why everyone thought that the big Tigres were not getting enough backpressure from bisson pitts mufflers.. I've not had a problem until recently .. And even then only in LONG (30+ second) hovers.. That was believed to be the culprit.. Anyway I walked out of the LHS with a YS Checkvalve in hand. I put it on my muffler pressure line to KEEP the pressure IN the tanks.. Went out fired the engine (St G2300) and as expected it was REALLY rich.. After tuning her up my transition has MUCH improved and it wasnt bad before! I'm holding a steady 8900 RPM with a good smoke trail and can hold extended Idle at 2000 RPM. So far its working beautifully.. i'm off to flight test it now! I'll let you know how it goes!

Regards,

Cody

Interesting. I wonder if other brands of one way valve will work the same way. I will try one on my OS 160FX with a Slimline Pitts.

I'm no engine guru but I'd bet that not all engines will be happy with that much pressure at the inlet of the carb. Apparently that big Tiger likes it. Another thing is that the pressure at the inlet of the carb is going to drop as you start to hover due to lack of head pressure from the fuel level. So it will change mixture from straight and level to a hover (it will go lean). The Cline regulator is the ultimate solution to this effect. It keeps the carb inlet pressure at atmospheric pressure no matter what the attitude of your plane.

Hey guys,

Sorry the computer was taken last night when we got home! I'm loving this thing on my engine! VERY constant fuel ndraw.. I too had thougt there would be no way to keep her running but after leaning it out it runs AWEOME!

Joe,
If you get a check Valve.. Put it on as I have described, tune up your engine, let it run a min or two. then cut it off and quicly pull the carb line off you will see that fuel will come out constantly for several seconds.. SO when you pull into a hover.. the mixture remains the same regaurdless of the inlet pressure. I think that answers your ? [&:]

Anyways,

I'm really happy with my set-up and it's alot easier than setting up a reg. or pump... Richard, Try it out and see if you get the same results

Well I guess that you proved it worked so my theory was wrong. I'll have to try that some time. I know I've heard on Saitos that it runs too rich but it works for you and that's all that matters.

I can't speak for the SAITO's... I believe they make alot more backpressure anyways.. But it did cure the Tigre
