Just noticed CH doesn't make cdi conversions for engines smaller than 1.20? Too much added weight for smaller planes I guess.
I was thinking of doing a cdi conversion for my fa100. More power, less oil required, and smoother idle sounds good to me. Seems like it's just a matter of fabricating a custom magnet ring and custom hall sensor bracket. Anyone tried this yet?

I have CH for a 100
Yes I did. Other than for tinker testing, why not run the FG engine as intended by the engineers?
seems the advantage relating to the high price of this series is cheap non sloppy fuel.
and they sound even cooler.....
Dosent seem as powerful as my nitro 120s though. ( Similar displacement)
I have done no scientific testing to establish that, just simple mount and fly with the same props.

Hey Crunch,
Sure, no need to send material, I have some around here. What engine are you doing?
Thanks for the sound comment, I sure like it too!
As you know, that FG-20 was originally a glow engine. It lost quite a bit on the way to burning gaspoline .
Made a nice conversion back to methanol. Makes better idle, more power and runs cool, even when pulling hard on bigger props. Methanol here runs $2.50 gallon, delivered to my door. No problem burning twice as much either. If I was that cheap, I wouldn't fly at all. Only costs a bit more to fly first class.
I dumped the old Saito CDI box and the Saito trigger as well. The CH/RCexl system is much nicer.
This is one of two FG-20 that I converted back to methanol. Very happy with the outcome.

cheap enough to light fires in my fire pit at that price!
And safer lol
Pretty Dave, the red hardware looks nice on that black engine. I have a cylinder from an R-325 which is the same as a 65 but with dual plugs. I intend to use a CH Twin ignition on that with the high compression piston on a FA-65 dual plug, HIgh Compression CDI.

FlyerInOKC this post is for you,
you know there are some very nice people here in the Saito club that has helped me and taught me new things. well, when I said in one of my posts that I wanted a Saito 91 for my ShueString racer my hopes were that some one would tell me they had a good FA91 they will sell me. but no,, Captcrunch PM'ed me telling me he would rebuild a FA91 and send it to me. but the thing is>, months earlier out of the blue, for only the reason of friendship he had already sent me an FA82 as a joint effort between him and Hobbsy. well I want to return the favor !!
so FlyerInOKC, I want to offer-up my rebuilt FA82 to you for the Top Flight Mustang you want to build, if you want it please PM me your street address and I will send it to you. if you don't want it please tell me and I will find some one else to send it to,,, let me known!!
oh BTW, if you want it please don't put it in a boring acrobatic plane like an Edge, Extra, Yak or Stick LOL

Gary, I have always liked the looks of engines like that, black cylinders/silver case,,, looks really nice !!
my question> could you mill and tap a hole for a 2nd plug in the Saito engines 125 and smaller ? I would not mind doing that on my 115 and or 100
Jim

Ok so a friend asked me to build an engine and per Gary’s advice and straightening me out I came up with a 45 with a 56 cam. I had to clean out the top of the cam housing a little, put in the lifters out of this broken 80 and use the push rods from a 56 with the 45 pushrod tubes.
main draw back, the 45 carb is way to small I can’t get a sloppy rich high speed. But it does idle good.
I turned a 11-7 at 8900 and a 10-6 at 10900. I think I can do better if I can get the 56 intake and carb to fit.
