Has any one tried a 11x8 MA or Graupner on a 72? Trying to keep the prop size down for clearance .

I know you can run one but wondering if any one has any results. I like Graupner props better then MA but they do come at a price. Even the MA three blade is a couple bucks mor then a two blade.

OF Graupner props are so expensive here that a two blade is more than a master airscrew 3 blade.

A year ago i purchased a 14X7 - 3-blade Graupner prop for $19.99 + taxes (Cdn.) for comparison with an MA. In my opinion the Graupner is heavier, but i love them. My 14X7 is in combination of a Saito 100 on the H9 Corsair 60.

Graupners are not cheap and sometimes they're hard to find. For 2-blade props i use APC. I don't use MA so i cannot make any comparisons in regard to pricing 3/2 blade props. APC and Graupner works for me.

Yeh 3 blade MA are more then double there 2 blade counter part. I don't mind buying props I will use but, hate to have tons of extra's that won't be used.

I've run most makes of props and even with MA I find a wide range of flexibility. IMO, that is what makes a poor prop and the reason wood, APC and Graupner are so much better.

Even though wood can be problematic if there are wide temp and humidity variations, for many of my first flights they are almost mandatory to save the engine and even airframe if something goes wrong. I just have to account for their lighter weight.

What happened is that my name is on the posts for Bill's work. I only uploaded the file. I wish we had the tools to edit that. W8YE did most of the work to correct my formatting mistakes to where it reads as well as it does now.

Would have been interesting to see figures for bigger props or more pitch. Got time and props?

OK, I should have predicted these results, that way folks would think I am a deviner of sorts.

Fuel for both engines===WildCat 15% Premium Extra
Prop for both============= APC 13x6

Saito .65/stock muffler, rpm====9,800, rpm/TurboHeader==10,000
Saito .62/stock muffler, rpm====9,780, rpm/TurboHeader===9,990

My assumption is that Horizon got their 9,900 rpm for the .62 using 30% fuel, that seems to be their standard.

The .65 wore an Enya A-3 plug
The .62 wore a Fox Miracle

Hey Charley, I'll do'er, its about 40 degrees and pouring rain here today. Here is something that surprised me the other day, although it shouldn't have. I ran a Bolly 13.5x6 and a Bolly 12.5x8 and got exactly the same rpm for each. About 9,450 on the .65, didn't try the Bolly's on the .62. I chose to not mention them because not many have Bollys. Its sad that Bolly went under. I have about 10 Bollys that I got from Fiery and Dar Zeelon and have not had to balance any of them. That's a rare thing.

Charles,

That wild goose chase I just went on was a little funny after a few minutes. I went back to an old post of yours in Oct 2007, and you signed the post as #406. Guess that's your number. Seriously, I need to go back and copy the membership lists that Bill Robison would post every few months for questions like yours.
