RE: Club Enya
My 80 4C on Marutaka Zero 40.
The engine was on TF P-40(red box, old kit) before Zero, and it
ran very well inverted. No quitting at all in flight.

I like enyas too, I think...(1) .15 (7) .19 (1) .25ss (1) .30ss heli (2) .35 (2).40ss (1) .45 (2) .46-4c (5) .52-4c (5) .80-4c (1) .90-4c (1) R1.20-4c and a few more.
I am surprised that the used prices on enya engines is so low compared to more popular brands. When originally purchased in the late 80s and 90s these engines cost significantly more than their more popular counterparts.

RE: Club Enya
Count me in please!
Three years ago in July, while passing by a hobby shop with my son, who was six then, begged that I would buy him rubber powered balsa plane. I walked into the shop, and in a sudden, after a 22 year pause, my interest in the R/C hobby was rekindled - by my son's rubber powered plane. Since the restart, my main stream of engines were 3 Webra's (90, 75, and 55 for 3 Heli's), a HP Gold cup 61, and a YS 91 supercharged 4-Stroke.
Then around two years ago while digging up things in a crawl space, I found some long forgotten engines. There were one K&B 21 (dead), a Veco 19 (dead), an O.S. 35 (runs but perky), 4 Cox's (probably functional), and of course some Enya's:
A 09 Control Line (left exhaust) and
Two (2) 29 model 5224 (with control line venturi)
I believe these Enya engines are over 30 years old and were bought between 1974 - 75. After some cleaning, they still turn smoothly and has excellent compression. Using an Enya #3 plug, a RC Carb and a 7x4 prop, the 09 fired up on the first flick. One of the 29 was placed back onto a plane, now equipped with an Enya RC carb, mounted with a 9x6 prop, started again on first flick with a chicken stick. Although spitting out some dirty oil, it still roared as it did thirty-some-odd years ago and pulled a 4 foot wing span 6.5 lb. plane into the air with authority. The other 29 could only serve as a parts engine.
These Enya's were abused. The 09 was placed in a car running in excess of 30,000 rpm with airplane glow fuel with insufficient lubricant and a regular aero head - no extra heat sink or cooling fins. I did not know of a car-specific blend of fuel with 30% lub existed then. The 29 was brutally assaulted in flying control line with a "tune-it-as-lean-as-possible" attitude, not knowing to run "a-tad-rich" as a teenager.
Since the Enya reunion with their surprising revival, I have acquired, thru online auction, 1 more 2-stroke and 4 4-stroke Enya's in this order:
53-4C (black head) (current)
09 IV Car with a red carb (current)
VT 240 (mfg circa 1988)
R120-4C (New in Box mfg date not known)
90-4C (Incomplete but new and never ran)
The 53-4C was put into a 40-sized 3D plane, mounted with a 12.25 x 3.75 prop. 52 in. wingspan and about 6-7 lb. At between 1/3 to 1/2 throttle, the plane already hovers. Pushing the throttle stick forward a touch beyond the half way point and the plane immediately pop vertically up. Amazing power. It is this 53 which convinced me to buy more Enya's despite how rare they are now.
The 09 IV, although a car engine with big cooling fins, is also ready to be used with a House of Balsa Spacewalker.
The VT 240 was dormant with its previous owner for who knows how long (slight exterior oxidation). The previous owner claimed to have only bench ran the engine. A leaky exhaust valve was causing very low compression for the left side cylinder. The right cylinder has excellent compression. First sign of trouble I noted was the use of FOX miracle plugs. Dismantling the cylinder shows the final half of the story. The cylinder wall and the piston appeared mint. It was the FOX plug being so long, it pushed aluminum burr from the glow plug thread into the cylinder chamber. In turn the burr was caught between the brass valve seat and the exhaust valve. The burr was then pressed into the seat. Multiple attempts (with a machinist friend) to clean and polish the seat has failed to re-seat the valve to a perfect seal. If Enya #3 plugs were used, none of this would have happened. I ended up getting a new cylinder head and 2 valves, spending in excess of US$200, from my local hobby shop (who has good connections with Altech). From the day of order to their arrival only took ten days. Now that the VT 240 is healthy I am looking for a plane to put it on.
I don't have plans for the R120-4C yet. The 90-4C still require parts to be complete. Which brings me to ask, does anyone have for the 90-4C:
(1) An instruction sheet (particularly the sketched dimensions, the exploded view, and the parts list). I would appreciate if anyone could email me a scanned copy.
(2) Extra parts of the 90-4C you wish to sell (I will be able to identify the parts once I have the exploded view and parts list).
Thank you very much.
- Also, does anyone have an instruction sheet for the 53-4C? Again, I would appreciate if anyone could email me a scanned copy.
** Added 2005.09.30 GM 01:40am ** -- Tom Englehart had offered to send me the instruction sheets. I wish to thank him here as well as informing everyone that Tom is extremely helpful.

The 240 loves a Mejzlik 20X6 on the ground. It will turn 9000 rpm with 5% nitro! With the 20X8 it will be right around the Moki 2.10 rpm as it is getting lower on the power band.

Absolutely fantastic engines. Picked up a 20 year old 120R from a swap meet. It is one of the best running engines I ever owned. It is mounted inverted in a Balsa USA Phaten Bipe without any ignition assistense and it never stalls or dead sticks with a 2K idle. Just picked up a 15TV at another swap meet for 25.00 new in the box.

I recieved this guy about an hour ago from Brown, the quality is impressive, It does not have a ring as the instruction say, it has a midrange adjustment and a nice touch is a threaded brass insert for the glow plug. More to learn. The same Hobby Shop I got this from still has a new R 120.

RE: Club Enya
I was a team flyer for Miniature Aircraft Supply and flew Schluter helicopters to 5th place FAI at the '86 Lake Charles Nats. I used Enya 60 XF III's practically my whole metoric career...I burned out and quit soon after. Those engines were bullet proof although I did use Super Tiger carbs on them.
They just ran and ran...
I bought fuel in the 55 gal drum and flew twice a day...morning and evening.
Those were the days...

Sheldons has a lot of Enya stuff listed but you never know whether they actually have it until you call, they seldom remove anything from their website.

Hi liljon559,
The standard VT 240 has only exhaust header pipes. Optionally, there is an extended exhaust with flexible metal pipe and muffer. The set, containing 2 muffers, flex pipes, and sets of mounting hardware is labelled as "SMR1204C2". Try MRC. Their number is (732) 225-6144. And it has been mentioned enough times in "Club Enya", talk to Carol.
Your other option is here:
Keleo Creations
53785 N.W. Our Ln.
Gales Creek, OR 97117
(503)-359-5318
The link below will take you directly to the Enya VT 240 page:
http://www.keleo-creations.com/Twins/enyavt.htm
Their home page is www.keleo-creations.com
If this configuration is not what you like, they will even custom make one for you.

Has anyone else had a problem with the needle valve stop springs not having spring to them? My needle settings have been changing in flight on one of my R155s, always goes lean. I think I will try replacing them with the old part from Supertigre carbs.
The reason the setting was creaping was one ear is missing from the spring, dough!
I checked the needle valve springs from the ST carbs, the detent is at the end of the spring steel and will not contact the Enya needle valve splines.
I would prefer the ST spring, it seems to be better spring steel. I think I could make a die from a piece of 1/4" thick steel with a saw kerf on both sides and then ca a couple pieces of 1/32" piano wire to the face of my vise and mash the works to extend the detent.

I bought VT240 at an auction planning to use it for Don Smith K-61 Hien,
but later I bought OS 160FX FI for it after I heard that VT240 had problems
on inverted run. I have not started building it yet though.
