RE: Does anyone else love Enya engines?
Bob
I have just concluded a deal with Mr Ken Enya, yes he is part of the family that own ENYA METAL PRODUCTS CO. LTD. If you want, I can send you his email address.
I asked for a box, instruction manual and parts sheet, compression screw and lock nut, screw set and gasket set for my ENYA Ultra 11 CXD.
All sorted out within 2 days, prices very fair, no gouging on shipping. Total price incl. shipping around AUD $23.00
I love dealing with people who offer support direct from the factory where dealers don't seem to care.
I have an ancient crossflow ENYA 35 given to me years ago by a now deceased gent. The ULTRA 11 CXD was given to me recently by a terminally ill elderly gent. One day I expect to hand them on to someone who appreciates them. They are that sort of engine.
Amazing compression on this small wonder.

Just won an Ebay auction for a NIB Quicky .09 for 34 bucks! I just checked the Enya website and they are going for over 100 dollars! Heck I don't even have a kit for this motor yet. I just wanted to add to my Enya collection. What's a good airplane for this motor these days?

G'day
Excellent result. Recently I have been enjoying several Enyas. A 45CX in a Somethin' Extra, A 45SSBB (ring) in a trainer, a 53 4C in a Midstar 40 and a 41 4C Diesel in my test stand. All run well and getting the diesel to run was far easier than I expected. I think there will be a few more eventually.

I bought the 90 FS from the market place. I offered less than the asking price and the seller accepted! Like I need another engine. Just wanted it for the collection. BTW - Anyone have instructions for a quicky .09? Ken Enya could only send me the "car" version.

Mike,
I shipped the engine last night. Enjoy.
I still have an Enya 120R that is going in a Bud Nosen Citabria that I am doing in the Turkish military colors. Going to be my war bird.

Looking at Ken's site, the Quickie 09 is a screamer so I would think that a 7 x 4 would be a good place to start. I see the piston is a lapped fit so it is probably iron in a steel liner and will therefore need some heat cycles running pretty rich to get things to fit. When I was a kid I had an Enya 15 which ran really well once I managed to get some initial running on it. Starting it new was not easy.
I have just bought an SS25 which I see has a "plain" piston and cylinder. I also see there are ABN, Al/Cr, and lapped. I am wondering what "plain" means. Anyone know?
Good luck.

Well, no replies for instructions for an Quicky .09, so does anyone know what size prop for break-in/flying for this engine?

"Plain" in Enya language means plain bearing, while "lapped" means steel liner and cast iron piston.
I really like the SS .15BB, it is ABC and one ball bearing. The larger engines marked SS and BB can also come in lapped versions which feels a little old-school.
Edit; just checked the Enya website and it seems they use both "lapped" and "plain" for their old-school stuff but they mean the same I guess...

The idle sounds fantastic!
So what is the secret? I assume there is a special glow plug. With the price of glow fuel this is an idea that could really catch on. Any particular reason it couldn't work on much smaller engines? With a suitable carb, of course.

I love my Enyas... The 60-4C is growing on me, but my favorite engine of my collection is my Enya SS30bb. It is, by far, the best running engine I own. It never quits, tunes and runs like a dream, and puts out some good power with a bigger .46 muffler on it. I feed it 5% nitro and 25% castor, and run it on a 4oz tank, and a hot McCoy 59 glow plug with 2 washers. I get about 7-9 minutes of runtime on it using a 9x6 prop. It is still running the original glow plug I broke it in with, 2.5-3 gallons ago. Great engine, not finicky in the least.

Me too. My collection has grown over the last couple of years.
Most recent acquisition is one of the new Enya 36 4c Al/Ch four strokes. What a sweet running engine. Nice power, very reliable and just a nice engine to fly. It is in a Kadet LT-25 and suits it perfectly.
I have also recently built a Stick from a plan and I put my 53 four stroke in it. I have had to put a three bladed 11 x 7 prop on it and with this it really flies the model well. My other Stick - a Great Planes Big Stick - has an Enya 45SSBB and really hauls it round well.
I also have a 45CX which I bought off a certain auction site quite cheaply. It has surprised me at what a good engine it has and really hauls the Sig Somethin' Extra it is mounted in.
I could go on but that's enough for the moment.

RE: Does anyone else love Enya engines?
I have a growing collection too, but I've had bad luck with my Enya 53 4 stroke. I bought it second hand and it looked and felt good. Power is very good. But I can't get a steady idle with the air bleed carb. I did a thread on it and nothing worked. I want to replace the o-ring between the carb and the inlet tube, and also the silicone collar that seals the inlet tube to the cylinder. No luck so far finding that silicone collar.
Does that Enya 30ssbb have a two-needle carb? My air bleed carbs on my 30ss engines are extremely non-linear.
I like the .09s and .15s. They can be over-propped for scale type models and buzz away happily on props that would gag most other engines that size.

RE: Does anyone else love Enya engines?
Jim - my SS30bb seems to be pretty linear, although running a 9x6 prop doesn't give much throttle change from 3/4 throttle to WOT. It does have the airbleed carb, and I find its operation quite good. On the 9x6 APC prop, the engine is turning about 14,000rpm. Throttle response is much better on the 9x4 and 9x5 props, but rpm is 15,000-16,000 on those props.

RE: Does anyone else love Enya engines?
That's interesting Tim. I run mine on larger props, so maybe that's why I'm less satisfied with the throttle. It's got terrific power for the size and weight, but I generally go for bigger props and less of the high pitched sound. Even though the Enya 30 can handle larger props without overheating, it probably isn't at its best that way.
I also think I would like mine better with the big muffler you are using.

I've ran a 9x7 prop on the .30 as well and it throttles the same as the 9x6. Note: I'm using APC exclusively so the load is slightly higher than MA props. You could try a lower pitch 9" prop and see if it throttles better; I assume it would.
