I've just bought my first electric model and I'm totally out of my depth trying to understand what the heck they're talking about. Believe me, I know what it feels like to be a newbie now
because who'd have believed they run in a brushed motor (how do they work without brushes?) by giving them a shaft run in a glass of water?

Great....does that mean I didn't break in my Hacker motor properly cause I didn't run it in water?.... I know I read the manual and it didn't say anything about a break in, never mind using water in the equation...You can put me into the newbies list too...

For electric DC motors that have brushes and a commutator, a break-in done in water will have positive effects on the brushes and on the commutator.
The motor must first be placed in the water and then powered up.
Your Hacker is a brush-less motor, which means it is a 3-phase AC motor that has neither brushes, nor a commutator.
Its ball bearings need no break-in.
...But if you want to become a newbie again, be my guest...
Guys, we are really off subject here.

JD, just mingle and observe when you first visit a Club, if a guy runs up to you and claims he is the local guru, run from him as fast as you can. If there are 4 or 5 older guys sitting in chairs having a gabfest one or more of them will know what they are doing or will know who does. The real guru will be flying his plane or helping someone get theirs to run better.
