I agree, once the planes get big enough to use a gas engine, why use glow?

Are you considering a large glow engine for your plane ? If so a Zenoah GAS engine is better in every way . There are many advantages to gas, here they are:

1. Much more reliable, no more deadsticks and crashed planes !
2. No adjusting or messing with them at the field: Set the needles and never touch them again, no matter what the weather. No adjustments = More flying !
3. They last forever. If you dont crash a Zenoah, it will outlast your plane, and even outlast you [X(]
4. Less fuel consumption. Lets you put a smaller sized tank in your plane for the same flight time = less weight.
5. No oil mess to soak your balsa, and destroy your plane over the years.
6. Way cheaper to operate You can fly all day for 2.50 for a gallon of regular. The same day using glow would take more than 2 gallons of glow fuel at over 30.00 [:@]
7. Carbs on GAS engines are pumped, you never haave lean runs, or fuel tank problems, it will suck every last drop out of the tank from full to empty, no elaborate fuel setups needed.

Just look at weedeaters, snowblowers, chainsaws, etc. You dont see people constantly fiddling with the needles on their lawn equipment !!! People in the business use their whackers and blowers all day, every day, and never have to mess with the engines They dont have maintenance on gas engines either, they just always work, year in and year out, they use em and put them away wet, no problem.

My Zenoah G-45 has flown over 2000 miles, has been run for idle in flight for 15 minutes and then throttled up many times, has flown at many altitudes and weather conditions with no adjustment needed, and has NEVER had a deadstick. I have never even had the sparkplug out of this engine, I just start it, run it all day, and forget it.

How do I know it has been flown for over 2000 miles, click on the link below and you will see for yourself:

options could be...
saito 220
OS 160 or a moki, etc
GAS!!

I have this plane with a 3w-42. It's a bit heavier & less powerful than the DA-50, but flies the plane great. (meaning a DA-50 would only be better!) Actually, this is my second GP cap.... but that's another story.

use the ailevator function of your transmitter if you have it & you will get the most axial rolls you've ever seen!
I used a single titanium geared servo for rudder with great luck instead of two ganged.
Ditch the stock tailwheel & put on a sullivan or other unit. Stock one will let go & ruin your day. (at least it will in grass)
have fun!

Some reasons to consider glow.

1. Saves weight.
2. More Power.
3. Lower initial cost.
4. Smells better.
5. You have a wide range of carb options, from unpumped, to pumped, regulated pressure tank, to fully electronic fuel injected if you have the bucks.
6. No dead sticks or crash planes with modern glow engines operated by someone with some smarts. Not sure about the people flying $5,000 planes on gas to save a few bucks on fuel.

The question was four or two stroke. Since this is a glow forum I assume he had that figured out. You are being an ass to jump in and push gas in the glow forum. I don't jump in the gas forum and push glow engines, so I think it polite to simply point out there advantages when asked.

I think people want all the options available to them. If I was asking a question, I would want the BEST answer no matter where I asked the question.

Only an Anal Retentive ****** would get so uptight and not give the guy all the options available simply because it was posted in the glow forum.

Then why didn't you suggest electric as well?

Electric when I can, glow when I need to, gas for my lawn equipment.

2 strokes have more power for the weight and usually cost less. 4 strokes have a different sound and "feel" to them. Both work well in most applications - go with what appeals to you.

I have found that I need both two AND fourstrokes. When I get bored with a plane with a twostroke I just swap the engine for a fourstroke and it is like a new and exiting plane again. However I can`t tell which kind is the best. Fourstroke sound is like music, but then again a screaming high rpm twostroke also puts a smile on my face. I guess this didn`t clear anything up though, sorry about that. Just follow your heart, may the force be with you

Zenoah's are good engines but for a 3D aerobatic aircraft they are underpowered and overweight. Go with DA, ZDZ, 3W etc.

Why didn't you mention all other options then. Someone asked why you didn't discuss electric, but there is also diesel, which may be a better alternative than gas for some models. Better torque, fuel consumption is probabley lower than with gas. I suspect a large engine can run with less ether (thus lower cost) , but I will let model diesel experts discuss that.
