Well I wanted a Davies Charlton Bambi
The model shop persuaded my dad that it was a bad idea so I got a Frog 1.49 Vibromatic instead.
For once the model shop was right, but they tended to be pretty honest back then . Of course, if you'd got the Bambi and still had it you'd have a little gold mine .

Mine was a Cox .049 mounted on a Carl Goldberg Lil Satan in the early 60's. It had a silk span covering with a red Sig dope finish. It looked really good. I spent weeks mowing lawns to earn enough money to buy it and then build it. My brother had a friend who could really fly. He offered to fly it first, but since I built it I wanted to fly it. It lasted about 15 seconds as I did a wing over into the pavement. I should have let Ernie fly it.

Got back into the hobby in 2000. My first RC engine was a Thunder Tiger .46 Pro in a Sig LT 40. I now have 3 Thunder Tiger .46 Pros, 2 Magnum XLS 46As, 1 Thunder Tiger .61, 1 OS .61FX, 2 Enya 120R 4 strokes, 1 Magnum XL .91 4 stroke, OS FS .91 4 stroke, and a Saito 125a 4 stroke. My wife thinks I'm crazy especially after I try to explain that I have a rather modest collection compared to many.

I salute your longevity! I'm just slighter older than dirt myself. 56 and the oldest man in my department at work and the third youngest at my club.

Around 65-66 My Uncle gave me a McCoy 19, I went from rubber powered FF models to U'Control's then due to this engine.
I had it on many Streak(s) and others.

I started with a Cox Space Hopper which was given to me around '95. I ran it on the bench, then scratch built a CL stunt looking model. I got about 2-3 circles in before it threw the prop. I think I flew it some more until it was broken. Someone gave my cousin a BD-4 trainer with an Enya .30 or .35 and Airtronics 3 channel green box. I managed one turn after take off before piling it into the ground. I made many flights, which I have on video, with a scratch built rudder/elevator 1/2A model with an Ace foam wing and a Cox Black Widow. I think I built a Bee-Tween before that but it was fragile and didn't last long. I got my first solo at the club with a scratch built Midwest Aero Electric trainer with a semisymmetrycal foam wing and an MVVS .09 diesel to which I adapted a probably Enya carb and home made header to remove the mess. On one of the first flights with the instructor the throttle arm failed at wide open and I flew it around until the 2 oz tank ran out some 15 minutes later. I had my first solo landing on that flight. I added an MVVS .15 diesel in '96-'97 or so and flew it for a year before switching to electric until about 1 year ago, now I'm flying diesels again. My small engine collection consists of many engines which predate my hobby career and some my birth.

OK Cub .049 and 074.. Back before dirt was invented.. Actually mid 50's... Can't remember which one I used first... Had it in a Scientific "Lil Stinker" I think it was.. Used to cut the wires to fit the street and fly it there...

A diesel exactly like this one , the last time the original one has been seen, it was gently roaring in a free flight plane during the summer of 1968 !

who guess its brand ?

Hello; I was given a Cox .049 on a Corsair C/L in 59-60, but the first engine I actually bought for myself was a Webra Silverline 40. It was $30, but wasn't much of a bargain, since I never got it running very well. Then I bought an OS 40 FP, and haven't looked back since. The next one was a Saito 45, which changed my mind entirely on engines, since I bought about 50 or 60 4 strokes since then.

My first was Cox Pee Wee with red anodised tank, later Cox Black Widow in my first "Pilot" danish stunt U/C plane. The Cox engines was cheaper than big brother engines. After miscellaneous Cox engines then i bought my first Enya 35 TV and my first 4 stroke engine OS 40 FS. My first diesel engine was David-Andersen Tellus 2.5 and David-Andersen Drabant 2.5 in same time. My first converted 4 stroke diesel OS 40 FS engine in 1997.

Before i bought the first engine, i saw the neighbour had the Graupner "Topsy" with Cox Babe Bee in 1977, after my first experience with his modelairplane, i got interest to have modelairplanes and model engines as hobby. Much later i started to make and repaired these model engines when i bought my first lathe Emco Unimat 3 in 1989.

Hey MrMotor,

Did you mean a Wen Mac TURBOJET with a pull chord starter like the one on the right? My second engine, the first was the Wasp .049 in the Aeromite on the left.

My first "BIG" motor was the 1956 Veco .19 in the picture. Flew it on a Sterling ME -109.

My first Fox was the stunt 35 in the picture. Flew it on a Ringmaster, what else?

First one I really owned was an Enya 15 C/L engine my dad gave me for Christmas in 1969, I was 9. It powered several nice C/L models over the next 25 years, a Jr Flite Streak being the best of the lot.

The first engine I ever flew with was prior to that, at age 6 I used to fly my dads Rudder Bug with a DeLong 30...even had photos posted in the old American Aircraft Modeler.

My first RC engine I bought with my own cash was a Veco 19 that powered a Kadet Jr back about 1979..."re-learned" how to fly RC with that one.
I currently fly a few Saito's, and have flown spark ignition SAM engines and several vintage diesels (loved that Amco 3.5) but still love the simplicity and power of a good 2 stroke.

It seems sometimes like 90% of modelers today either fly all electric or at least have a few in their fleet but I remain 100% addicted to nitro and don't see a cure in the near future.

My first glow engine was an OK Cub .099 I bought shortly after my birthday in 1949. Eventually got lots of flying with it, mostly cl with some rc. Still have it. Still runs. That same year, an uncle bought me a Wen-Mac Aeromite for Christmas. Wore out the pull cord trying to get it started. Finally about 1958, I got one high speed run, with a 5-4 prop, a Walker Balloon tank, and Fox High Nitro fuel.

It looks identical to my original Sabre Diesel (I think they may have had something to do with Davis Craig but it was a long time ago).

HB .40 I was told it was a German engine. Some one gave it to me in the 80's.

I wish I still had my first engines, but I always had to trade-in what I had to get something new (to me). I'm glad that you still have yours.

Which airplane is that in your avatar? An Ultralite? TIA

My first R/C engine was a Merco 29. Lots of problem with overheating. Eventually sold it off. Found out later Merco's were pretty much designed to operate on low or no Nitro fuels, and Missle Mist was too much.

Missile Mist, I miss that purple FOX can. Maybe the best named product ever! Of course it was only 25% nitro.

Seems you can still get "The Purple Brew Just For You" from Fox, at least the last time I was on their web site a couple weeks ago.

My 15s ran great on it, especially after performing some mods written up in FM and MAN by people like Riley Wooten and Larry Scarrinzi. They ran even faster on Blast and High Nitro fuels by Fox, which were something like 40% nitro. Blast and Hi Nitro were great for the .049s.
