Default Help with perry pump

Okay, my sk 90 has a back pressure problem with the pitts muffler and the stock muffler doesn't fit no matter what conviguration i try to mount the engine. Clogging one of the outlet wholes isn't working so i decided to try the perry v30 pump. Everything works flawlessly, if i can get the engine to start. I have been trying both hand flipping and an electric starter and it just won't run for more than 1 second before it quites. I can't stop it from over priming the engine. The one time I have goten it started, i removed the carb line and placed it in a cup, started the engine and let it run through all of the excess fuel in the engine, i then reinserted the fuel line to the carb and the engine ran great. I have also tried using a return line to the tanl with a t-nipple. Same thing happens. What should i do? The engine just won't start with the pump installed but once the engine is running will run fin with the pump.

sounds like you may need to decrease the pump pressure. when you get them set there great, but sometimes there hard to get just right. If the motor would idle good before the pump but nut run top end due to the pressure problem , I would try to reduce the pump pressure first.

Thanks Mandtra, i have got the engine running very nicely and have adjusted pump for good transition. I have already seen a peak rpm boost of about 600 and am expecting more. I am still having problems flip starting it but my starter battery is dead and i am going to see if using an electric starter helps. Idle seems to surge alot and didn't get a chance to richen it up and try again before it ran out of gass.

I decided to use the return line to the fuel tank and not only does the enging run better but it starts much easier. I will be doing some mods to the tank to allow for one extra line for fueling and defueling. I am still seeing the idle serge and am still thinking it is to lean. I will be working on that tomarow.
