I have a brand new, never been run SC91FS that I bought for my top-flite spit 1X. I would be interested to hear from anyone with one of these engines, to give run-in tips and general advice, types of plug etc... This is my first 4 stroke lump, please be kind....

Does anyone have one of these engines in a top-flite spit?

There are several different brands of engines that are made by the same company.

SC, ASP, & Magnum are all identical.

If you want to read a review of this engine, go to www.justengines.unseen.org and read the review on the ASP 91

I have one and it is a friendly easy to adjust engine. It has power compariable to the OS FS91 Surpass I engine.

Treat it as you have your 2 stroke engines. Except if you get it too lean, it will back fire, tear up the spinner and or throw the prop off. Always have a smoke trail.

Enjoy,

Jim

My ASP91FS is doing great with about 60 flights.

Only one dead stick and always starts after a few seconds on a starter. Low tickover, instant throttle, not too heavy, runs inverted etc.

Dont run it weak as said before. Mine went off the boil and I noticed the camshaft looking decidely dry so now after every session I pump a couple of CCs of oil down the breather pipe - performance is back to its best.

Mine turns a Master 13X8 prop really well. I dont have the clearance for a 14X6 which might be the prop of choice.

Thanks for the reply's guys, I plan to use a 3 blade 13/14x 6 so I get plenty of ground clearance. 3 blade cos only the very first spits had a 2 blade job up front, and I want it to look the part. I know the MK 1X had a 4 blade prop, but these are hard to get in the UK (at a low price anyway). Besides I cant be arsed changing props, and I dont foresee entering any scale contests.
I've also read some pretty scary performance theory (elsewhere in this forum) on 3/4 blade props for small planes. The 3 blade prop would seem to be a reasonable trade-off between appearance, ground clearance and performance.

ta-ra for now

Andy
