Picked up this engine very cheap it RUNS GREAT!!!! Thinking of installing it on a sig 1/5 clip wing cub, should come under 7.0lbs with a span of 68" is this enough engine?

I know the 48 will fly a regular 80" full wing Cub with more gusto than scale flying.
You can also use a OS 52 or Magnum 52/61 carb on the 48. They will bolt right on.
Also the OS 52 head will give you about 300 rpm.
The valve parts will interchange.
Or you can recess the plug in the 48 head to make it into a 52 head

Thats good to know. I wasn't sure. Some of the folks on the scale group said I needed at least a saito .62. The kit says use a .45-.64 4 stroke and I never have installed an engine on the lower end of scale. How does the os .48 compare to a magnum .52

Thanks for your help. You know your way around 4 stroke engines. I know nothing, with this OS .48 what kind of prop range are we looking at? Haveing never flown a cub before I am amazed that a .48 size engine can flya 68" wing plane. Will this engine still alow this clip cub to do all the moves that a clip cub can do.

With the 48 engine your clip wing Cub will only do maneuvers if you dive first to pick up some speed and even then it will only manage an elliptical loop or a cork screw roll.
With my engine I ran a 12-5 prop. It seemed to be very satisfactory. I used the engine on a Slow Poke. It was very adequate for the plane.

What would you recomend for an engine, other than a saito .62 or .64 (they are a bit pricey) would something in the .50-.60 size work? On ebay I was looking at an OS .56 or a magnum .52 would this be okay. Any recomendation would be great.

I am running exactly this combo. Sig clipped wing cub plus OS 48. I have even made a set of floats for it. It is lovely very scale. In a silly moment I have even looped with floats on. This was a bit of fun waiting for it to go over the top.

I have the older Hangar 9 80" wingspan cub with OS 48FS.
Great combination, fly most of the time just below half throttle.
It is a nice engine, I get 10500 rpm with an APC 11X5 prop.

My first Cub was a 76" one with an Enya .46 four stroke and that too was a great combination. You should love the .48! My last H9 80" Cub had everything from an ASP .61 2-stroke to an OS .70 4-stroke and finally a Saito .56 4-stroke. The .61 and the .70 were overkill.

That what I thought, anything over a .60 size is a waste. I think the .48 will be a good choice. I tend to bulid very light planes anyway. Thank you everyone for your help. I have only been in this hobby for about a year and half, I still have alot to learn. Very greatfull for sites like rc universe that allows low time people like me to pick to the brains of skilled people .
