Default Need a new .40 two stroke engine

Help! I have been out of modeling for several years, and need a new .40 two stroke R/C engine -- reasonable priced as possible, since I am retired and on a limited income. Any Ideas, Please??

Default Yup

Thunder Tiger 46 Pro- About $75 bucks new...

A Ball bearing motor with lots of power, easy to set, has an angled needle valve for safety and idles like a sewing machine

One of the finest engines I have owned in 17 years-

What kind of engine are you looking for? I know that the tt.42 bushing motor is pretty strong for a bushing motor, and i think it costs $48. I have one on my magic and it hovers at half throttle. If you are putting this on a trainer or something, this would be a good motor.

Default Here it goes!

This is the kind of subject that replying is like volunteering to be the next gopher to stick your head out to see if the farmer still has his gun.

I would not hesitate to buy a new SuperTigre .40 or .45 and yes Tower does have them in stock. My next choice would be Thundertiger Pro series. I haven't checked but I have recently seen posts here complaining that they are falling behind on orders. I would not hesitate to buy a Tower .46. but it would be my third choice. All three of these mfgrs. use real chromed sleeves instead of nickel so you will have to tolerate a longer break-in period. The .40 ST is ringed of course. Not a bad trade off for the integrity of ringed or chromed vs. nickel. If I were going to buy a bushing motor my only consideration would be a GP.42. I really don't think there is a more cost effective motor on the market.

In the end I think the honest truth is your happiness in whichever motor you choose will be dependent upon your ability to: set up you plane properly (tank height etc.) , to properly break- in and tune your motor(read the instructions). and how well you take care of it avoiding lean runs, using after run oil etc.

Enjoy whatever you fly with and you can't go wrong. Take care, Cliff

Fellas, Thanks a lot for your feedback. You have given me a lot of good leads. I plan to be back in the air before long. I have got a Johnny Cashburn trainer to re-train with, before I break something serious. Again, thanks a lot!!
